Oakley

The cheeky playful 9 week old Oakley is looking for his forever home. His gorgeous golden brown coat with black markings is super soft to pat when he cuddles up next to you.

Baby Oakleys Mum we know is a Wolfhound x of Med size and his Daddy is either a Golden Retriever or aRed Heeler !! The ranger from the pound was informed both of these breeds had a playdate with mummy !!!!!!!

Currently weighing in at 5 kilos, we expect him to grow to a medium to large size dog.

Oakley is in foster care with his female littermate Ripcurl and his foster carer’s small female dog. He absolutely loves to play with the girls and will spend all of his waking hours running around chasing and wrestling with them.

He is a super sweet boy and is a bit of a chatterbox, if you look at him and talk to him he will yap back at you in conversation lol

FAVORITE THINGS

Oakley’s favorite thing is to play with the other dogs. He will always be the one to initiate play, whether that be wrestling, chasey, or with toys.

He loves to chew and play tug of war with a range of toys (balls, soft toys, ropes, plastic rings etc).

INTERACTION WITH HUMANS

Oakley is very loving with his foster mum and will seek her out for attention and cuddles throughout the day.

He also loves visitors that come over and will happily have a cuddle with them too after a few minutes. Watch out though as he will nibble on their toes and can be quite mouthy.

He should be fine with children in his new home as long as they are mature, can respect puppy boundaries and understand pups need sleep.

OBEDIENCE/TRAINING

Oakley travels well in the car.

He doesn’t know many commands yet but will respond to uh-uh and good boy.

He will benefit from puppy school and ongoing obedience training.

ANIMAL SOCIAL SKILLS

Oakley loves other dogs. He plays well with his two year old foster sister and with his littermate. He will happily curl up with them and go to sleep too.

He has had a sleepover with other bigger dogs and interacted well with them too.

Oakley would love to have another dog in his new home. They should be female, medium to large size, well socialized and tolerant of typical puppy behavior.

Dog-savvy cats should also be okay.

FOOD

Oakley eats 3 meals a day and absolutely loves his food. He gets super excited when his food is getting scooped into his bowl. He will finish it all quite quickly.

He is eating #Savour Life puppy food.

INDEPENDENCE

Oakley hasn’t been left completely on his own, he is always with his littermate and most times the resident dog too.

He will happily play and snooze with the other dogs while his foster mum has been out for up to 6 hours.

HYGIENE

Oakley has a soft easy to care for coat. We haven’t noticed much shedding yet. He doesn’t particularly like having a bath but is quick to wash and towel dry.

SLEEPING

Oakley sleeps in a covered crate in the lounge room. As a pup he needs 18-20 hours sleep per day. He usually goes to sleep around 9pm, and will go out for a week before his foster mum goes to bed, and usually once more during the night. This has decreased from multiple times a night so with age he hopefully won’t wake during the night. He take frequent naps during the day for 1-2 hours at a time, usually in his crate with the door open or on the dog bed, carpet or couch.

EXERCISE

Oakley hasn’t had enough vaccinations to go out on a walk yet. When he is old enough he will need at least one decent walk per day. He should also have a backyard with plenty of room to run around and explore.

INSIDE THE HOME

Oakley spends most of his time indoors at his foster home. As a puppy he gets into absolutely everything that he can so his new family should make sure to puppy proof all areas he will have access to. He will chew anything he can get his sharp little puppy teeth on!

He loves to be around people and should be welcome inside his new home to be part of the family and not just a backyard ornament.

He can’t jump on the furniture yet so this will be something his new family can set rules from the beginning on as he gets bigger.

His toilet training is improving and he is having less accidents inside. He knows how to use the dog door and will sometimes take himself out. His foster mum takes him out before bed and when we wakes up, after eating or having a big drink, and every hour or two in between if he hasn’t taken himself out already.

IDEAL HOME

He should be welcomed and be part of the family and not constantly left outside alone.

Kids would be okay if they are mature and dog savvy. Oakley is very mouthy and will nip with sharp puppy teeth. Kids should also understand he needs sleep and to be left alone for 18-20 hours a day while he is young.

Oakley should be taken to puppy school and will need training at home to continue becoming a good boy. He should also be socialized with other dogs once he has all of his vaccinations.

He will require at least one walk a day once he is old enough for the rest of his life. He also needs a medium to large size yard with grass and shelter.

Oakley is such a stunning boy with a gorgeous personality and will be a wonderful addition to an amazing home.

If I could have my wish for my new home I would love the following

Children - I would love to have some children if possible who are gentle and kind and loving but mature enure to know I need lots of un interrupted nap time while of grow and who won't drop me so over 5 would be nice

I would love a secure backyard that has grass for me to play in with shelter and shade and room for me to run so no little units or tiny terrace yards

I would be fine with cats as there are some in my foster home and I'm young enough to learn

I would love a BFF doggy friend if possible that is a FEMALE and of medium size and up who is kind and loving and would be ok with the usual puppy chewing and playful behavior. .She must be desexed and well socialized with other dogs

I would love a home that my new family are willing to train me and not just have me as a back yard ornament and who will treat me as a part of the family
