About Rusty - 4 Year Old Kelpie (On Trial)
Calling All Kelpie Lovers! - Meet Rusty a nearly 4 year old Australian Kelpie.
The first thing you need to know about Rusty is that he is SMART. As soon as his eyes open of a morning he is ready to go on patrol duty. He wants to “work”. He’s that dog that you see on walks that loves collecting sticks until he eventually he can’t fit any more in his mouth. I promise you will find yourself carrying a stick home for him just so he doesn’t have to choose.
He is a stunning colour and quite big for a kelpie. He is fully housetrained. He sleeps inside on his own bed with no accidents and has never been destructive.
When the work is done for the day Rusty would love to curl up at your feet or (if you are willing) in your lap to watch a bit of TV.
Rusty has been retired from a property due to the desire to “work” the chickens and birds and pretty much anything that runs. He is a workaholic who needs an owner with breed experience who will invest in puzzles, training and lots of exercise. Rusty can be strong on the lead and has a desire to chase anything that moves fast including cars, but it is extremely promising how fast this behaviour is able to be corrected in the moment. He wants to please.
He loves to meet people and dogs and shows no aggression or resource guarding towards either on or off the lead.
He can jump in greeting so would not suit small children.
Rusty’s ideal home would be
• Someone with breed experience willing to provide puzzles, training and exercise
• Someone who is looking for a best mate to spend lots of time and to go on adventures with
• Would not include chickens, birds or pocket pets
• Someone who understands that Rusty is not ready to be off lead in public for quite some time. His new owner will understand the prey drive in kelpies and have knowledge on how to redirect his focus
• Someone with 6ft fencing. Whilst he has shown no desire to escape foster care he will require 6ft fencing as a precaution for this very athletic boy.
For more information on Rusty, please contact his foster carer on adoptginger@outlook.com. Rusty is in foster care in Swansea Heads, NSW and he is available for adoption interstate. Rusty's adoption fee is $350 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.
