About Carston
Hello I'm Carston.
I've had a really rough start to life. I've been in many foster homes, been abused & (generally) am not trusting of humans because I've had so many bad experiences. However, my foster mum for almost a whole year now, has shown me what love is and given me the space to feel safe and trust at my own pace.
I am now ready to move onto the next journey to my forever home - even if it will need to be slow and gentle. I am a playful and cheeky dog - but until I know you're my rock, you won't be able to see my playful, confident & happy self.
I currently have foster dog brothers and a sister - who I love. I really enjoy playing with all dogs - from chihuahuas to mastiffs to staffys - I love them chasing me in particular because I am so fast and agile. I also rely on my foster siblings sometimes for safety cues if I'm nervous. I need to find a home with a dog sibling to help me learn and grow more confident - or a human who is really experienced, patient & home a lot.
I am now toilet trained, walk exceptionally well on my leash, love a car ride (I really didn't at first!), I can also sit, stay & come with my foster mum. If I feel nervous, however, I get very anxious and freeze and commands are not very effective. I can do all these things only when I feel safe - and this grows every day.
It's important you understand I am not aggressive at all. That's why SAFE has persevered with me for so long. When I'm scared I just freeze and hide. I do still find the world a bit of a scary place - particularly new humans. My foster mum has been very patient and gently exposed me to new things I have found scary like moving vehicles, bikes, and scooters. I have been known to get so scared that I bolt into the nearest bush and hide. Now, I just glue myself to my foster Mum's leg instead.
I am hoping my forever home and parent is out there somewhere & looking for me. I know I will be a lot of work - but I have grown SO MUCH over the last year, and know that I can continue to grow with the right owner to be the happy chappy that I haven't been able to be until just recently.
Please reach out to SAFE if you think are you this special human.
