Kippa is an active, inquisitive, gentle, loving, timid, and submissive dog. He had a rough start to life, and now he's been learning to trust people more and more. He'll need gentle introductions to new people and places as he continues building his confidence. He bonds very quickly with his main humans and will follow you everywhere around the house and yard, just to watch what you're doing and keep you company. He loves cuddling with you on the couch while you watch TV (if you invite him up). He bonds strongly with people who have time to spend with him (and give him yummy treats). He loves all dogs he meets and wants to be friends with all of them.
He really enjoys being inside and being part of the family, and especially likes sleeping in the bedroom on the floor. He often puts himself to bed early, and he has no issue sleeping-in if you want to snooze for a little longer. He won't wake you up for a 5am walk, not even an 8am walk. He would need a medium to large sized yard as he loves to explore the yard during the daytime.
He’s learnt lots from following around his big foster sister (30kg bull-arab x), including how much fun dog toys are and how to chase balls. He does not resource-guard food, bones, toys, etc, and these can be easily removed by his foster family or his foster sister without any fights or issues (they constantly steal / share with each other; the food tastes better when stolen from the other dog, for some reason?). Both dogs are submissive type and get along great!
He loves car rides. He jumps in/out all on his own, and loves to stick his head out the window. He was a dream at the vet and let them do a full check up without any issues, and the big needles were a breeze! He is not reactive to other dogs, even the loud barking ones.
Kippa has done some crate training and enjoys having treats, bones, and meals in there, and the occasional snooze. He is fully house trained and sleeps through the night (on the carpet next to the bed). He loves hearing “lets go to bed”, and heads straight upstairs. He’s learnt how to use the doggy door for inside-outside access. Kippa and his foster sister make almost no noise when they play (no barking, growling, etc). Kippa has very good recall.
Commands he knows: Come, sit, wait, jump, off, eat, treat, lets go to bed, outside, pee-pee, house, drop-it, leave-it.
Commands we're working on: lay down, in your crate.
Kippa is smart around the pool, and enjoys walking into the step landing to cool down on a hot day. He loves playing in the kiddie pool. He tolerates showers really well. He lets people pick him up, trim his nails, and check if he gets a scratch.
Kippa has a deformed foot due to an old injury that didn’t heal properly before coming to the rescue. Because of this, we don’t recommend he be taken on long runs, though he’s fine to go play running, zoomies, and playing with other dogs. He loves jumping around. It hasn’t slowed him down at all! He would love an active family for him to be a part of. He will need a family who can walk and play with him daily. He would do best in a house with another dog who tolerates his playfulness, though his level of activity has levelled out recently as he's become more confident and calmer.
He barks when he's afraid or uncertain of sounds outside the fence or the house, but this has improved as his confidence has grown. To keep his confidence growing and to set him up for a win, his family must be prepared to introduce him slowly to new situations and people.
Medical notes
Kippa has quirky foot due to an old injury that didn’t heal properly before coming to the rescue. However, he’s fine to play, run, play zoomies, and play with other dogs. It hasn’t slowed him down at all!
