About Bean
Bean or ‘Queen Bean’ as she is affectionately called by her foster parents, is a very gentle, sweet-natured, affectionate dog with a playful side.
Her best friend is her teddy bear which she likes to carry around, play fetch with, and nap on. She will gently put a paw on you to let you know when she wants some attention.
When Bean initially came into foster care, she would tremble at the sight of her lead and going for walks, but now at the mention of going for a walk, Bean will do excited twirls and wait patiently at the door. Once outside Bean likes to take her time, sniffing and stopping to take in her surroundings. While Bean has slowly built up her confidence when out and about, her new owners will need to be patient and understanding that sometimes things can still be a little scary for Bean, especially when around a lot of activity and loud noises from motorbikes or skateboards.
While Bean is comfortable walking past dogs on her walks, she prefers not to stop to interact with them as she finds meeting new dogs in these situations overwhelming. She is not suited to someone wanting a dog interested in socialising with other dogs outside the home and is definitely not suited to off-lead dog areas. Bean has displayed some resource guarding behaviour in her foster home towards the resident dog. This happens when she is lying next to her foster carer or is on their lap. If the other dog in the home approaches she will growl and sometimes snap in their direction. It is possible that Bean could coexist with another small and calm doggy friend who was happy to give her space; however, this would need to be coupled with an owner skilled enough to train and manage the resource guarding. Considering the above, we do feel that Bean is best suited to an only dog home.
Bean loves the company of humans. During the day, she likes to nap in her foster parent’s lap or in her bed next to them while they work. She will often take herself out into the yard to walk around the garden and enjoys laying quietly in the sun or rolling around with her teddy bear.
Bean is toilet trained. She has access to the yard during the day and evening and will go out again just before bedtime so she sleeps soundly without any accidents through the night. While Bean often gives her foster parents sad eyes in the hope that she can sleep on their bed, her routine is to sleep in her own cosy bed just outside her foster parent’s room as she likes the comfort of knowing they are close. However, in the morning she is allowed on the bed and loves to soak up lots of cuddles and pats.
Bean is looking for an adult only home that is relatively quiet and where someone is home most days. She is quite comfortable being left at home for short periods of time. We are looking for dog experienced owners who are patient, kind, caring and who are invested in giving little Bean the love and support she needs to continue to flourish.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
