Ruby

Ruby is a very loving, pocket-sized Kelpie girl of almost five years old. She is a happy, playful girl who loves the company of both people and her doggy friends. She has slotted into her foster home very happily and is an easy dog to have around, always wearing a smile on her face and a wagging tail. Ruby loves spending time with her humans whatever they are doing, whether going for a walk, taking a trip in the car or just sitting in the sun.

Ruby loves to go for walks and walks well on the lead. She’s not a high energy dog and is very happy if she can go for a walk every day with the space to do occasional zoomies around the backyard. She is well behaved in the house, sleeps quietly all night in her crate, and has her basic training down pat. She is a very smart girl who would love to do more training, and this would also help her to build a strong bond with her new family. She would love to learn some new skills such as Agility or other dog sports too, as she is very light and agile on her feet and learns quickly.

Ruby absolutely loves her three foster brothers and would love a doggy friend or two in her forever home. However, she is very wary of dogs she does not know and she will need to continue with consistent training on lead with her adopter to overcome her fear reactivity if other dogs bark or show any aggression. It would be beneficial if someone in her new family has some experience and confidence in training for this reason. Her foster carer will also provide any ongoing support needed in this respect.

Ruby likes to try to herd her brothers around the back yard, so her new companions will need to be tolerant of her herding style of play. She would probably love to try a bit of actual herding of sheep too as she has plenty of instinct!

Ruby will not mix well with cats, chooks, or pocket pets but behaves well around her foster Mum’s horses and does not react to the neighbour’s cows.

Ruby is ready to find her forever home, and is looking for a family where she will have lots of company, affection and interaction. If you are looking for an affectionate, fun-loving best friend, Ruby could be the dog you are looking for!
