About Obie - 6 Year Old Kelpie X (On Hold)
Obie is a 6 year male Kelpie X with energy to burn.....he Is the perfect running partner!
Obie is a highly affectionate, energetic boy, the Kelpie traits are strong. He loves running and long walks. He also get a huge amount of satisfation and reward from being active and playing in the backyard. He loves his ball, to play catch, although he is still learning to bring back and drop at your feet....usually some distance away.
Obie has proven himself as a fantastic training partner, he loves to run with his human friends and currently completes a 6.5klm run easily. So if you are the competitive type, take part in park runs, love hiking, or just run for excercise or fun then Obie is the dog for you. Given his infectious energy, he is an excellent motivator.
Due to his desire to run, Obie will pull on the onset of a walk at normal pace but is settling quicker with every outing. He does become quite stimulated when meeting large dogs on our walks but has never shown any aggressiveness.
Obie is super intelligent, he has learnt to sit and wait for his dinner and not eat until given the command ‘good boy’. Obie is toilet trained, uses a doggy door, has good recall, he is learning to sit whilst his leash is attached and to wait until instructed otherwise. Obie is not treat orientated, he will not take a treat or even have a drink whilst out exercising so its pats for rewards and a verbal “good boy”. He is not a barker however will occasionally bark at another dog when they come to the gate or will alert you as to visitors.
Obie loves meeting people and will occasionally jump up, a simple no...sees him stop this behaviour....again with pats as Rewards.
Obie behaves well in public places eg the beer garden, cafes etc. He has no reaction to loud noises, storms or fireworks. All he wants is to be loved and to be by your side.
Being a working breed Obie will need a family who are commited to providing daily exercise and enrichment to keep his mind active.
Being an affectionate boy, he doesn’t like being left outside on his own for long lengths of time, but with access to inside, he’ll curl up on the couch and snooze until you get home. He just loves being in and around his family. Obie is an inside dog, currently sleeping at the end of the bed or on the floor (when hot) next to the bed.
Obie currently lives with 3 other dogs, a male Labrador, a female Jack Russel and a visiting Dane X Labrador. Obie would be suited to a home with another dog to keep him company if you work away during the day however would benefit being an only dog in a home where someone is home often, ideally, his new human would work from home.
