About Ruby
Ruby is a lovable black 4-year-old Labrador who is playful and affectionate. She is toilet trained and extremely well behaved inside. She waits patiently to be taken out during the day, and sleeps throughout the night in her bed.
She is very friendly and social with everyone, including children and is happy for a belly rub and a scratch behind the ears.
She’s fully house trained and can be left on her own for a few hours and doesn't dig in the garden or chew things she shouldn’t chew. She is quiet, with no barking issues.
Ruby loves going for walks and has been trained to walk well on leash. She is highly motivated by food, which makes food rewards a useful training tool and her repertoire include wait, sit, stay, come, heel, leave it, let’s go, slow, steady, go to bed, do wee/go toilet, have a drink, up up/down (stairs), on your bed/mat.
Being a Labrador, she loves water and has a small play pool that she enjoys lounging in during summer. If someone had a pool, she'd be in it all the time! her other loves are playing fetch and tug-o-war.
Ruby has a high prey drive and is likely a working line Lab. Her brain is constantly working and will hunt small animals (e.g. lizards, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc) if given the opportunity. She is very scent-driven and will go wherever her nose takes her, if allowed to. She therefore needs to be in a well-secured yard and kept on-leash when out and about, and requires an experienced handler when out and about. She would do amazingly well with some form of advanced training to keep her brain stimulated ie: nose/scent work, place training etc.
Her interaction with other dogs has been mixed, she's friendly but if play escalates she gets over stimulated and this can cause a disagreement with other dogs. It's best that Ruby doesn't interact with other dogs due to this.
Ruby’s ideal home would be one in which she’s part of the family (allowed indoors), has a secure yard and she is the sole pet, with someone home a fair bit (like all Labradors, she enjoys company).
She is best suited to a confident, assertive owner or family who has previous experience with dogs, especially with those that need more than an average dog in terms of stimulation, who can take her on regular walks (and be OK with not letting her off leash) and continue the training her current owners have invested in her. Her need for quality physical and mental stimulation will be key to her happiness.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
