About Dexter
Dexter is a gorgeous male chocolate Labrador raised in the Assistance Dogs Australia training program. He is 15 months old, desexed and looking for his forever home!
Dexter is a lovable boy but needs time and patience to trust new faces and transition to new places.
Although Dexter has shown some great qualities during his time in the Assistance Dogs Australia puppy education scheme, we have decided that he is not suitable to be placed as an Assistance Dog.
Dexter is often anxious and at unease in new environments and frequently voices his feelings. Dexter loves other dogs but can be a rough player off lead and distracted/reactive on lead when passing dogs in the street.
He will ask you to be patient while he is getting used to you, your home, and the new neighbourhood. It may take him a few weeks to bond with you and feel comfortable in his new home. Then, he is guaranteed to shine!
All Assistance Dogs are accustomed to spending most of their time with humans inside their home so Dexter’s ideal person or family would be willing to make him a big part of their daily lives.
We feel Dexter is at his best in a familiar environment where the daily routine is predictable, and the people are constant. Couples or families with adult children would be best. Dexter will benefit from being the only dog in the house and would need outdoor space to expend energy daily.
Dexter is a healthy young dog. Vaccinations and parasite protection have been kept up to date. If you think Dexter could be the right dog for you or you have any further questions, please email Andrea at ablackford@assistancedogs.org.au so that I can pass on an application form for you to complete.
