Introducing Xeriphus!
Xeriphus was surrendered to a pound as a 6 month old. He had no real exposure to new people or dogs prior to being rescued and thus can be a little wary of meeting new people at first. That being said he has come such a long way since being in care and has started to show his true, friendly, playful and bubbly personality by flopping onto his back for belly rubs!
His favourite past times include wrestling with his 5 year old Bull Arab x foster sister, playing, eating, getting endless pats and playing.
He has previously lived with 4 cats and has shown no interest in our cat, calmly walking past him without so much as a second look. He walks very calmly with a slip lead/training collar and has shown no aggression when passing dogs on walks or when meeting new dogs. He is also learning to meet new people although this remains a work in progress as he is still a bit unsure of unfamiliar people. He responds well to treats and praise from his trusted humans and has made good progress over that last few weeks with lots of positive reinforcement.
Xeriphus is a great watch dog and will bark if he hears something out of the ordinary, but will stop with a simple "enough" or "leave it" command. He has not shown any destructive behaviours while we have had him such as digging or chewing and will happily stay out in the yard while we are at work, provided he has access to shelter, toys and water. He has been crate trained in the past too so may be happy being crated for short periods provided he has a chew toy or bone to keep him occupied. He is learning to wait at doors and gates, sits when having lead and harness put on and taken off and will wait to be given a "free" command for his food.. which is extremely impressive when you realise just how much he LOVES his food!
We believe that due to his age he would be best suited to a home with an older resident dog or someone who is at home most of the time to allow Xeriphus to continue to build on his socialization and training to reach his full potential to be the best boy.
