About Cobber
This is Cobber.
Cobber isn’t for everyone. And that’s exactly the point.
Cobber is a smart, driven, highly capable dog who has spent years in the system — not because he’s broken, but because most homes aren’t the right fit.
He doesn’t need saving.
He needs the right person.
Cobber is confident, energetic, and switched on—but he also knows how to relax. He’s crate trained, settles well, and can happily switch off when nothing is being asked of him.
Where he shines is in engagement. He’s highly food and play motivated, loves to work, and thrives when he has clear direction. Training isn’t a chore for Cobber—it’s where he comes alive.
Cobber needs an owner who actually wants to lead.
Someone calm, confident, and comfortable giving direction. Someone who understands that good dogs don’t happen by accident — they’re guided, shaped, and given structure.
Cobber doesn’t enjoy being handled by strangers and won’t tolerate overhandling or pressure from people he doesn’t trust. Because of this, he’s not suited to homes with children.
Cobber is socially smart and good with other dogs, but he’s not looking for a dog park lifestyle. He’s handler-focused and would much rather train, explore, and move through the world with you.
Cobber also has a strong prey drive, so management around smaller animals is non-negotiable.
The upside?
Cobber has had 8 months of professional training and comes with ongoing support from his trainer — at no cost. You won’t be figuring this out alone.
The right home looks like this:
• You’re confident and comfortable setting boundaries.
• You value training, structure, and clear communication.
• You want a dog you can do things with.
• You’re not looking for “easy”—you’re looking for “worth it”.
Cobber isn’t a project.
He’s an opportunity—for the right person.
If you think you could be the right person for Cobber, please contact our Shelter Manager Yvette on 0421 831 128, to chat more about Cobber, or to make a time to come and meet him.

Adoption details
If there is a cat/dog you would be interested in adopting that you have seen online or met at our Adoption Centres, you will need to fill out an Expression of interest. You can do this at the Centres or online at: friendsofthepound.com/adoption-apply
If you are a homeowner, we need a copy of your Rates Notice. If you have a Body Corp, we need their written permission that cat/dog ownership is allowed.
If you are in a rental we need written permission from the Home owner/Letting Agent. The letter needs to be dated within the last week and state the property address, the name of the Occupant (adopter-to-be) and how long you have been at the property.
We cannot accept deposits and no hold can be put on the cat/dog.
All adoptions need to be approved by our Cat, Kitten or Dog Coordinators or Management so you might not be able to adopt the cat or dog at the time you meet them.
We aim to match the cats/dogs with the most suitable owner and home environment. Our goal is to have the cats and dogs go to a home where they can spend their entire lives, which could be up to 20 years or more for a kitten. and 15-20 years for a puppy.
