The stunning, gorgeous and loveable Kingston is a Labrador x Mastiff mix who will melt your heart

At 36 kilos he is a larger size med boy

It will be love at first sight when you meet this boy. He is a lover of the two legs. Always happy to say hello and have a pat.

His carers think he looks like a beagle on steroids lol

He has a soft silky smooth coat, big puppy dog eyes, gentleness of a mastiff and the appetite of a lab. A happy, funny boy, absolutely full of personality. Great with people, loves interacting with dogs and enjoys walks.

Kingston is looking for a family to share his quirky characteristics with and bring a smile to their faces. He is still a big bouncy puppy with a big heart full of love

Favourite things

Kingston is a lover of toys. His absolute favourite toy is a giggle ball. He loves chasing it as it rolls around giggling then will carry it around very proud of himself.

He loves all games!! tug-of-war ropes, puts on a good chase of the tennis ball at the park, unfortunately hasn’t learned drop yet. Really anything that you throw, so he can fetch it. But keep in mind he doesn’t always hit the brakes. Lol

Kingston loves it when you rub his ears and squish his big face! Or maybe the squishing is just for us. He’ll enjoy any dog treat you hand over but would probably appreciate a dog bone or cow hooves for his down time when left alone. There is always lots of excitement once the lead comes out too. Daily walks are ideal unless you have the space in the yard to run around.

Interaction with humans

Kingston has been fantastic with people, saying hellooooo to everyone he meets. He does get excited and those two front feet may leave the ground but this is rare compared to some dogs of similar age. He’s a big smoochy patoochy. 🐶

He did have one occasion where someone felt anxious meeting him, and he must have sniffed those vibes as he started softly growling. We haven’t seen Kingston amongst children but believe there will be no problem here under supervision. Kids would have to be dog savvy as he is a large boy so most probably suited to early teenage up

Obedience / training

Kingston can fetch, sit, shake, stay and wait. His recall has also been great.

Kingston is also learning how to sit before crossing the road. The more we walk him, the better he gets. We have found he’s great on a halti which really helps control him if he pulls. He gets easily distracted and curious with other animals, cats or dogs, when walking by and doesn’t want to lose vision of them. Kingston has also been fine when travelling in the car. Sometimes he can get a little stubborn and won’t get into the car unless someone is inside first – needy boy.

It would be fantastic is a family would consider group obedience training for his continued training and socialisation

Animal social skills

Kingston has met and lived with a number of dogs. He seems to like most dogs, but seems to have a dislike to golden retrievers so as with all dogs, slow introductions are a must. During his foster care stay he has been living with other dogs and has shown a playful side and instigates play well. When walking past other dogs he shows interest but does not lunge or bark but at times needs encouragement to keep moving. Off lead with no other dogs for distraction he has fabulous recall. If he is entertained at the park with a ball he is not really interested in other dogs

Kingston has a lovely demeanour around most dogs lots of tail wags and of course the usual bum sniff

Although living with a few other dogs he can get very annoyed if anyone growls and will react so based on this we feel that Kingston will be best suited as an only dog in the home as if the other dog does growl it will set him off

Food

Definitely his Labrador genes come out when it comes to food

Lover of food, lover of treats. Makes a great vacuum cleaner. He does like to see what’s in everyone’s bowl so should be fed separately just incase other dogs are uncomfortable with him trying to sneak their food

He needs to be reminded to take treats gently as he can get excited and jump up

Currently Kingston is eating a combination of Prime meat rolls and premium dry biscuits. He is absolutely not a fussy eater. He loves dog treats throughout the day to meet the demands of that mastiff belly.

Independence

Kingston is happy to be outside on his own when his family are home and will not bark

Kingston has been fairly low maintenance when left alone.

HOWEVER we have learnt on two occasions that he can jump a regular sized fence using the wooden vertical pails to pop over . Both of these occasions were after his foster carers had left the house.Poor boy just didn’t want to miss out. Luckily he has great recall. Therefore Kingston will need a secured backyard with moderately high fencing, or colourbond ideally without wooden panels – he’s a smart but cheeky boy. His foster carer has great ideas to help stop with jumping if you are concerned

Other than this, Kingston hasn’t been too destructive, some soft toys have been decapitated and his bed has a few bits of foam missing but he is still outgrowing that puppy behaviour

He is quite happy to lie in his kennel on a colder rainy day, or soak up some sunny goodness. He would appreciate long-lasting dog treats, hooves or kongs.

Bathing and hygiene

Such a good boy!!! Once tied up, he sits still when being washed with the hose. We kept the pressure low so he wouldn’t be too overwhelmed. We remained very gentle with him during this process and didn’t have a problem. He has a moderate shedding coat, more mastiff than lab we think

Sleeping

Kingston does not complain where he sleeps. He has been quite comfortable in his kennel or on the outdoor couch. As long as there is shelter, he will sleep anywhere. He is currently sleeping in his dog bed with access via a doggy door for toileting

Exercise

Kingston has low-moderate energy levels. When hyped up, he will love a run around on an oval or simply a faced-pace walk – well fast for our little legs compared to his. We have been walking him for at least 40min a day. He loves to chase the ball at the park or trot alongside you on a short jog. After about 10 ball throws he is pooped and ready for a drink and walk home

Inside the home

Kingston has been a very happy outside dog. His favourite spot has been sitting on top of his kennel looking into the kitchen. He just loves watching us cook or make a cuppa tea. Kingston would love being inside too,

He has doggy door access but has had a few accidents inside ( no poop) but that will need to be monitored and I’m sure he will not need to much training with some redirection

Medical

Kingston arrived with ear infection and fly bitten ears which have now been treated. He has some very small scabs left which will heal and no longer require treatment

Ideal home

Kingston is looking for a home without another furry friend. He is not fussy when it comes to people, as long as he receives lots of pats, hugs and attention. He requires a moderate-large sized backyard with secured fencing so he cannot pull himself over.

Kingston needs a home where he can spend some time inside with the family

An active family to take him a on walks and throw ball

A giggle ball is an essential toy

Not suited to a home with cats as has a desire to chase

Most of all needs someone to love him as much as he will love you

A home where he can play with other well mannered dogs on social visits ( But not Golden retrievers lol )

He will not be suited to a small yard or apartment living
