About Monaro
Are you looking for a hobby farm kelpie or want to try your hand in sheepdog trials? Then Monaro might be the perfect fit for you!
Smart and energetic, he loves to be outside exploring and has even proven himself as a great sheep worker. This boy is extremely trainable, very affectionate, loves other dogs and is impeccably trained.
Suburban life just wasn’t enough for this man. He loved playing with doggy pals and exploring new places, but we knew his needs weren’t being met so we sent him to one of our trainers who is on land to see how he would go with the sheep and he has done so well! He took to the sheep naturally and has been enjoying having a job to do. He isn’t quick enough to herd on a large property, but his natural instinct and aptitude to please makes him the perfect candidate for a hobby sized farm or sheepdog trials.
He is fantastic around sheep and poultry and is excellent around children. He is still young so will be a perfect dog to transition into a new lifestyle doing whatever it is you want done. He would be fine on a property just as a pet, as long as he gets to stretch his legs and use his brain daily.
While at the trainers he has mastered his basic training. He walks impeccably on leash and travels well in the car. He is currently kenneled at night which he is absolutely fine with, but would be equally happy with a comfy bed inside if his new home allows that.
As a working breed mix, Monaro will require a home that is active, preferably has working breed experience and understands the concept of quality mental & physical stimulation and has the capacity to supply it. It's not enough that you go for a leashed walk each day.
He will suit most rural lifestyles as he is so social and trainable. He is gorgeous to look at and our trainer said he is just the best natured young dog. Someone is going to be very lucky to make Monaro a part of their family.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
