NOTE: You are unable to meet Rory until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Rory in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.


What I need in my new home:
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• Secure Fencing with no holes or areas I can escape through
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• A family who promises to keep me well-groomed and brush me regularly so I'm always looking and feeling my best
• Lots of love and attention
• A quiet & mature family/household - this is what I am used too
• I enjoy the company of other dogs my own size but am NOT keen on bigger dogs
• No young children as I have some issues with resource guarding my food, treats and toys, I can become snappy if you try to take them from me or come too close, older children who will be involved with my training should be ok. I will need a fair bit of work regarding this, I'm eager to learn and think it should be easy with the right person who is willing to work with me on this.
• I can be shy at first, so I need a family who'll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• I have never interacted with another dog before coming into the shelter so I can be unsure of how to behave around and with them! I will require a lot of positive socialisations with other dogs so that my behaviour improves and not deteriorates towards them.
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
• I need to be the only dog at home, I get jealous and will pick fights. I am ok to socialize and be around other dogs when out & about on a walk, at the beach etc

Things that I don't want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• No young children as I can be a bit shy in new situations and with new people and little ones may accidently scare me. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok
• No other dogs - I don't mind passing them and saying hi when out and about but I do not have much tolerance for them
• Cats or small animals as I am frightened of them

My best features:

• I can sit, shake hands & stay
• I have had some basic obedience training and am a generally well-mannered dog
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• I know my basic doggie commands
• I walk well on lead
• I appear housetrained
• I love attention, hugs, kisses & head scratches
• Well mannered
• Love to snooze on the couch
• Housetrained and used to being allowed inside

Where I need to improve / Training required
• I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue with my socialization
• Unsure in new situations - more socialising is needed
• I am extremely timid in new situations such as entering a building/home. I MUST have a family who'll allow me inside so I can see it isn't a scary place and to allow my confidence to grow.
• I am scared of thunder & fireworks and will bark & whine. I will require a safe space to retreat to during these events as well as comfort and reassurance from my family.
• I need a nice quiet home with no young children (under 12 years), so I can whatever time I need to get used to my new home and learn that I'm safe and loved
• I appear to have issues with resource guarding when it comes to my toys and treats. I will need some training to help fix and to get rid of this behaviour. I prefer to be left alone completely if I am eating something very high value (bones, pig ears etc) I will need someone dedicated to working through this with me. Lots of positive experiences with my food and people will help immensely.
