We would like to introduce you to the loveable, sociable and pretty Lela.
Our very special, placid and gentle loving girl is now seeking only the very best of homes
At just 5 months old this baby girl has the sweetest temperament and potential to do anything
This sweet and precious girl is a border collie with the softest fur, she’s an absolute cuddle bunny who is destined to be your best friend and who is loved by everyone she meets!
Her current weight is 11.5 kilos so she will grow to a standard size Border Girl at full growth
Lela is fun, easy going and quick to learn and with training and time will make the perfect pup. She gets along well with other friendly dogs and particularly loves the foster family’s cat.

Favorite Things:
Lela loves a cuddle and a chat. She can be vocal, has developed her own language and loves to interact with you. She really wants to be part of any action and particularly likes to be included. You will hear from her if she feels left out.
She loves to sleep on beds, on the couch and wants to be right up next to you. If you stop patting her she will nudge you till you start again.
Interactions with humans:
Lela does not have a mean bone in her body. Every human, young or old, is her best friend. She does still occasionally jump when greeting people but we are confident with continued training she will stop this behavior.
Obedience:
Lela just wants to please. She responds well to training and has learnt lots with her foster family including to gently take food from the hand and obey the house rules. She knows how to sit on command and will give you her paw if encouraged.
Lela has been taken on some long and short walks, doing okay on lead but will pull when she sees others, as her puppy enthusiasm takes over. She just thinks everyone wants to meet her and love her too, as much as we do!
In the car she is excellent. No noise, no crying, she will lay down and tolerate the ride well. Being a pup she will benefit from attending puppy school on a regular basis, and later dog obedience training.
Animal Social Skills:
Lela loves being with other dogs and even cats. We have exposed her to many friendly, known dogs and she is in heaven playing with her friends. She gets along well with the foster brother dog and cat - in fact they often all fall asleep right near each other. It is very sweet. She has their trust and understands their boundaries, only barking at them when playing. We have exposed her to other cats as well and once she has given them a sniff, she is fine with them.
Food:
Lela does well on a diet of high qualitySavourlife Puppy food family with occasional treats in her dinner of grated carrot and boiled chicken
Lela does have an intolerance to pigs ears and rich treats so please avoid
Independence:
Lela is happy to be left alone for a period of time. If left all day she can dig and throw around shoes and other items that have been left outside. She has not destroyed furniture or anything heavy but would need good quality, safe doggy toys for enrichment and entertainment. She doesn’t bark (unless playing), isn’t scared of thunder or noises, and loves to lay outside on her bed for naps.
Bathing
Lela has had two baths and tolerated both well. She has also confidently jumped in a friend's pool to ‘rescue’ our daughter. She swam to the other side and got out easily. We are guessing she would love river or beach walks.
Lela will be a typical double coated Border and will require regular grooming so please take this into account before applying

Sleeping:
Lela sleeps in a crate in the adjoining garage with her foster brother dog and cat. She makes no noise, happily going to bed at 10pm and sleeps through to 7am with no problems. She runs outside for a week when awake and then has her breakfast.

Exercise:
Lela is learning to love a walk on lead. At first hesitant when the lead comes out but once she is walking, she really enjoys a sniff and being active. She has been getting at least one long walk a day or two short walks. Being a border collie, she is a very active and it’s important that her forever family understand this and will be dedicated to lots of walks and playtime in a good sized yard.
Inside the home:
Lela is very well behaved in the house. Initially whilst we were working out her food issues, she did have accidents inside. But now she very rarely has any accidents and would be considered mostly toilet trained.
Lela does think every bed and couch is fair game. Her deepest sleeps are often on a bed and she loves to be inside at night with you.
Be prepared to be loved and offer lots of love in return.
If you work from home she will lay next to your feet, snooze all day and be your best friend.
Ideal home:
Lela’s perfect home is one with an active family where the home has a good sized, securely fenced yard.
Lela is still a pup, will need to be taught boundaries and ongoing training is crucial. The family must be committed to spend their time with Lela and bring her into the home as a member of the family. The intelligent breed that Lela is, you will be rewarded with the effort and time that is put into this beautiful girl.
Cats are welcome but must be dog savvy
Another dog as a BFF for Lela would be amazing as she loves furry friends but we would only be seeking a desexed, well solicased male who is playful and gentle
Daily exercise and continued socialization is a must. At a minimum, a daily walk of 45 minutes is needed to burn up her energy and to let her discover the world. She would happily travel anywhere with you - on bush walks, to the beach and to friends' houses.
Lela will not be homed to a house with a small yard or a family that are not active as she is a working breed and will require lots of family time and stimulation all throughout her life
