When Junior first arrived to his fosters it was clear he hadn’t had a lot, if any, time on fresh grass before. This was one of the most beautiful things to witness when he started playing with his new toys outside, he ran and ran all around his large backyard, throwing the toys in the air, jumping up to catch them and absolutely loving his new life, this is where his freedom started and he was overjoyed to be safe and with people.

Junior is such a happy pup, he loves to be near his humans, he loves to listen to you talking to him. He is loyal, gentle and eager to please.

Everyone who has met Junior has mentioned how beautiful he is, his gentle eyes, his gentle demeanour, and many have said “can I keep him” haha! Sure, you can adopt him 😊

FAVOURITE THINGS:

Juniors most favourite things would definitely be snuggling up with his humans, his toys especially his orange “monkey” which is actually a dog, he will play with this on his own but much prefers you to throw the toys so he can run and chase them.

Junior loves treats, especially dehydrated sweet potato and chicken, he chose these himself at a vet visit 😊. He also enjoys chewing on a dehydrated bone, these keep him busy for hours.

Junior enjoys going for walks, or a run at the dog parks, he will need continued training here which will be explained below.

INTERACTIONS WITH HUMANS:

Junior enjoys meeting everyone and anyone and will use his manners when being introduced to new people.

Junior hasn’t been introduced to small children. We feel he would be perfectly fine with kind and gentle mature age children but as he shys away from hands coming over the top of his head we are mindful that children don't always listen

He is fine with adults.

Junior can be a little head shy when meeting some people, for this reason we introduce Junior and ask that he not pat directly on the top of his head.

Once junior knows you, he is happy with pats on the head.

OBEDIENCE/TRAINING:

Being half greyhound Junior will not sit, those longs legs are a little hard to manage to sit directly on, but he definitely understands “Stay”. We use stay when walking and crossing a road, as Junior is very loyal, he will not attempt to cross a road until you give him the command “Come”.

We also use “Come” when entering the house, going outside, hopping in and out of the car, anywhere you want Junior to go “come” is his main command.

He also understands “No” for instance if he is having a sniff at the kitchen bench “No Junior, Come” and he will be right by your side.

When walking on the lead if Junior spots another dog passing by, he does instantly want to stop on the spot and go say hello, he will give a little whinge if the dog is on the opposite side, sometimes his commands go out the window in this instance, we will then use a treat to redirect his attention back on track with his commands and to continue walking. He will need continued training for this on walks.

Junior has learnt to stay, we will put a treat on the floor in-front of him, he will not move until given the command “come”.

Junior is not food aggressive.

You can put his bowl down and remove it.

Junior travels really well in the car, he may need a little help to get his long legs in, once driving he loves to feel the wind on his face with the windows down. He will also settle and lay down in the back seat.

ANIMAL SOCIAL SKILLS:

Junior plays extremely well with other socialised dogs.

He just wants to be a part of the action, running, sniffing and joining in on the fun of being a happy social dog. He enjoys off lead parks, walks through gardens, sniffing just about every flower he come across.

Junior will not bark at other dogs.

He understands that if another dog isn’t interested in playing, he will keep his distance and let them be.

Junior has not been introduced to cats.

A cat free home only.

FOOD:

Junior has been having dry kibble, Optimum adult, for his meals. He was having some quality wet food mixed in but this did upset his stomach. Since only having the dry his upset tummy has subsided.

He has 2 cups for breakfast and 4 cups for dinner.

Occasionally we will add in some sweet potato or grated pumpkin which he thinks is the bees' knees 😊

INDEPENDENCE:

Currently Junior is outside from early morning till mid-afternoon. During this time, he will be given his breakfast and have another snooze on the outside lounge.

Junior needs toys to keep him entertained and stimulated while his humans are out of the house.

While Junior is outside during the day, he does have a stimulation toy amongst other toys, which we hide small treats inside of, Junior enjoys the rewards of treats that come out as he plays with this toy.

Junior really loves when you throw his toys for him, he will bring the toy back, with a simple command of “drop” he will drop the toy at your feet and be ready for you to throw the toy again. He will also play with his toys on his own, but much prefers human interaction when playing.

On the warmer days Junior will be happy to lay around, the heat does make him a little slower and not so interested in running around.

SLEEPING:

Junior sleeps with his foster carer in their bed.

When he arrived and was brought inside for the night, he instantly made his way up on to the bed, this had us thinking that he did sleep with a previous owner.

Juniors fosters don’t mind him in her bed. Junior is quite the “big spoon” he will start off at the end of the bed and by morning he is snuggled right in next to you, his head on the pillow, legs thrown over his foster mum just like a big hug ❤️ with his nose buried under his paws, it’s so adorable!!

When you wake up and get out of bed, junior will follow, he is put straight outside to start his day.

He is also happy to snooze on the couch next to you while you watch tv.

EXERCISE:

We have been walking Junior once to twice a day.

He will happily walk for an hour, or play at a dog park for several hours. He is most definitely exhausted after this and will need a nap when he’s back home.

INSIDE THE HOME:

Junior is very well behaved inside the house, as mentioned above his loyalty is his priority, he will follow you and wait for commands.

He will jump up on the couch, but only the one with his blanket on it.

Junior isn’t very interested if you are eating in front of him inside the house, he’s more interested in snoozing.

Junior is not left inside the house alone he much prefers to be outside during the day if home alone.

Junior will also only go to the toilet outside, if he is inside, he will get up and walk to the back door to let you know he wants to go out.

IDEAL HOME:

Teenager with big dog experience and adult supervision considered.

Juniors ideal home would be one that is looking for a loving, gentle, playful, loyal companion.

A home that he is invited inside and allowed on the beds and couches.

A home that has another medium to large sociable friendly dog would be great to give Junior a friend.

A home with a contained large grassed backyard so he can run and play.

Must have covered area for Junior to be safe, where he can snooze out of the sun and rain.

A home that will give Junior the continued training he needs while on walks.

A home that will give Junior all the love he deserves, you will receive this love back times 10 from Junior ❤️
