About Stanley
Please meet STANLEY, a well-mannered, polite and highly intelligent 6 yo American Bulldog. He weighs 47 kgs.
Stanley is one of those dogs that's very easy to love. He has an affectionate and confident demeanour and loves playing the clown when excited and when he thinks he has your attention.
Stanley has lived in the same home since he was eight weeks of age and has not wanted for anything. Sadly, due to a sudden change in family circumstances, he has been very reluctantly surrendered by his doting owner, who fell in love with American Bulldogs as a small child watching Spike Bulldog in Tom & Jerry cartoons. Six years ago when Stanley joined the family, it was the culmination of his owner's childhood dream to have a Bulldog of his own.
Very well-socialised and loved by everyone he meets, Stanley has seen more of Australia than most humans. He accompanied his family on a two-year campervan trip around Australia and left a positive impression wherever he went.
He gets on with all dogs, but prefers larger dogs to small ones, which he tends to ignore. He’s never shared his home with another dog, but Stan is a well adjusted and adaptable dog.
He can do the following on command - sit, lie down, bark, get up, leave it - and will sit quietly staring at a tasty treat until he receives the command "you can have it". He's happy for you to inspect his mouth and ears and will willingly offer his paw to have his nails clipped and filed.
Initially excited when taken for a walk on leash, he can pull for five minutes, but then settles down and walks like a proper gentleman. Despite his size, he has always been gentle with visiting children, but has never lived with them.
He loves to swim and was a frequent visitor to Gold Coast beaches. But no dog parks for Stanley please. He's been attacked twice by off-leash dogs in Gold Coast dog parks so it's now a no-go zone for him.
Stanley is accustomed to his family being around most of the time and having unfettered access to the home. He sleeps inside.
The breed is heat sensitive and Stanley will need to be kept cool in summer. Due to his weight and size, he's not built for exuberant play. Rhythmic walking, swimming and backyard play are the order of the day.
Stanley's adoption fee is $495 and he is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
If you are interested in meeting him and can offer him a suitable, safe and loving forever home, PLEASE COMPLETE THE ONLINE ADOPTION APPLICATION at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ and one of our volunteers will be in touch.
Preference will be given to applicants with prior Bulldog experience.
