Hi there! Are you looking for a loyal and loving companion? Do you like warm hugs and cuddles on the couch? Then Doogan is definitely your guy!

Doogan is a very handsome boy, with soulful amber eyes and the softest, loveliest coat.

He is a very loving and affection young boy, with an immensely sweet nature.

Although Doogan hasn’t had the nicest start to life, he has come along in leaps and bounds whilst in foster care and has so much love to give.

Doogan’s favourite things are:

Being near his humans – he is happy to snooze at your feet while you’re working, cooking, cleaning, etc. Just happy to be close by. His foster Mum has nicknamed him “Velcro”.
Climbing onto your lap for bear hugs and cuddles on the couch (or wherever you happen to sit still for a minute). He is a huge snuggle-bug and loves to snooze with his head on your shoulder.
Doing zoomies in the backyard with his toys in tow.
A good game of tug of war with either a human or canine companion.

Doogan is currently in foster care with a 4 year old male dog and a 2 year old female, of differing temperaments. Doogan likes to play with them both but is still learning his manners and can be a little boisterous in his play/mouthing at times. He reads other dog behaviours well and loves the company of dogs in the home. Doogan will thrive with another canine sibling, to provide comfort, cuddles and confidence. Doogan settles well when left home alone with another doggy companion, and generally sleeps or plays with his toys while you’re gone. Then gives you the cutest and most exuberant welcome when you come back!

Doogan is extremely friendly to all visitors to his house (especially the ones that bring treats) and happy to share his cuddles around, however can take some time to feel confident meeting new people in new places. All introductions should be done slowly, as Doogan is still learning that it’s ok to trust people.

Given Doogan’s size (33kg), he is best suited to a home with older, dog-savvy children (his tail and zest for life may accidentally knock over smaller ones).

Whilst in foster care, Doogan has mastered sit, drop, shake and stay. He is generally very good with obedience training however when he gets excited or wants your attention, he will mouth your arms or pants pockets gently, as a young puppy would. he responds very well to tone of voice and you can stop him from doing any unwanted behaviour with a simple ‘uh uh’. Doogan sleeps through the night in his bed, and once he knows the bedtime routine, happily adapts and goes to sleep with his blanky in tow.

Doogan thrives on rules and knowing what you expect from him, and it makes him happy to please you. Further obedience training would assist Doogan and his new family to establish a bond, build his confidence and help him to be the best companion he can be. Doogan is now house-trained, apart from some accidents in his first few days in foster care, while he was getting used to his new home.

Doogan is a very sweet, goofy, special boy, and has won the hearts of his foster carers – he will make a very loving and loyal companion in his fur-ever home.
