Happy Jack is just a little fella who is a English Staffy x Heeler mix weighing just 22 kilos, so a typical English Stafffy size boy

Happy Jack is a sweetheart, a happy boy who looooveees his people.

He is full of energy, love and affection. If you are looking for a constant companion, Happy Jack will fit in perfectly.

Happy Jack came to our rescue quite scared of the outside world and we feel he was not exposed to much before Ak9 saved him. Our foster family has worked exceptionally hard to take Happy Jack out on walks daily and exposing him to lots of new places, situations and sounds. He has come along in leaps and bounds and now is adjusting well to the big wide world. Happy Jack enjoys daily adventures, walks, short runs and meeting new friends be it two legged or four

Jack's Favorite Things

Well Jack loves his people, they are by far his most important thing in his life

Walks and playing with friends are second on his list

Sleeping is another favorite

Jack hasn’t taken to toys but we think over time he will show interest.

Jack does like cow hooves as a chew

Jack is not a fan of pigs ears and initially when given treats he would cower and be quite scared for some reason

Interactions with humans

Jack bonds with his main humans and wants to be with them 24/7 if he could. He will watch movies, the footy, hang out while you drink lattes with your girlfriends, or cold beers with your mates. He will be your little shadow

Jack does suffer from separation anxiety and is currently medicated which we will need to continue until he has settled into a new home but his vet feels he should be able to wean off in three to six months once settled and used to a new life with a new family. He was initially quite distressed at his foster home when his carers left but now he is learning a routine and his anxiety is decreasing. His ideal home would be someone working from home or a family which could send him to doggy day care or a friend on days they work. We have found Jack is more settled if he can access the home and see out the front window of a property. His carer currently works a few days a week and Jack is well managed and settled on medication

Jack loves having a cuddle, if you're sitting down he will want to be on you !

He absolutely adores all humans and is excited to meet everyone as long as they will give him pats and cuddles .

He loves following you around the house and being wherever you are although gradually he is learning to wander off and do his own thing .

Obedience and training

Initially when Jack was left alone he did show some destructive behavior but we feel this was more due to his distress of trying to find his career when not home. We have worked out he is better to have some access to the inside of the house if possible as he is more settled if he can see out of the front windows.

Jack can sit, drop, he will wait at crossing roads when told and will go again on command “ let’s go “

He will sit and wait for his dinner until told

He is a bouncy boy with a lot of excitement as he’s still a young dude, he is so full of love to give he wants to say hello to everyone !

We are in the process of teaching how not to jump during greetings but he is a very excited boy. Jack can be a bit mouthy when excited or playing so we suggest teenage children only.

Jack would benefit with an owner who will continue to work with him so he continues his socialization and obedience

Jack travels well in the car with a restraint belt. He is settled and does not bark

Exercise

Jack currently has 2 walks a day but you can get away with one big one . Jack will let you know when he’s ready to go for a walk and gets quite excited to head out.

Jack needs a harness to be walked as he is a fairly strong boy having staffy genes and is very keen to say hello to everyone on his walks ! If not seeing people he happily sniffs the daily’s news. He has a little quirk where he loves rubbing up against every tree on his walk.

Animal social skills

Jack enjoys going to the park and socializing! He is very social with most dogs unless they are aggressive or dominant toward him. He has been into a dog park meeting all the dogs and has eagerly had a run and game of chase with others

He has not been fully tested with cats but the few interactions, he just seems interested not wanting to chase so we feel with dog savvy cats he will most probably be ok

Hygiene

Jack has a short, easy to care for coat.

Food

Jack is not that food oriented, he will happily take treats after he is comfortable but never give him pigs ears, there is something triggering about them for him and he runs away from them and cowers. He takes treats gently but cautiously

He is on a diet of just dry food but loves sardines and some morsels if being offered

He happily takes his medicine with a scoop of peanut butter everyday

Jack is happy to graze all day and isn’t overly focused on when dinner time is .

Independence

Jack is not a barky boy, very rarely barks at passes by when someone is home

Initially when left he was quite distressed and howling but with time and medication he is now settled when his carers go to work.

We have had him assessed by a behaviorist vet who believes once he has settled into a permanent home his medication can be weaned off

Jack occupies himself during the day by looking out the front window of home if alone. He is slowly learning to be on his own more but will need time to transition into a new home slowly as far as being on his own goes. He is becoming more comfortable being away from his humans the longer he is in care. He has shown he will go outside on his own to the toilet and is house trained.

Sleeping

He sleeps on the end of the bed and will just always want to be around. We have tried crate training and it made him quite distressed. He sleeps all night without an issue

Ideal home

Jack would suit a home where someone is mostly home or he could even go to work with them or doggy day care

Suitable with a female dog who is placid but playful. Note we do not rehome dogs to same sex

Teens + simply because he is a bouncy boy

Someone who will give Jack love and patience to transition into a new home

A home where Happy Jack can be an inside dog and possibly share your bed

Someone looking for a loving loyal companion who loves to be showered in love and licks

Daily routine :

6am wake up where he has his medicine, no fuss is made when his owner leaves, no goodbyes. He has access to 70% of the house while his carer is at work

Chills on the bed all day looking out the window

When I come home we say hello and calm the excitement.

Walkabout 1-2 hours later

Dinner anywhere between 5-7 .

Very chilled for the rest of the night after a walk .

If Jack is left alone in the evening or during the day he is given a short acting medication to help keep him calm
