About Me

Maddi is a 6 month old Beagle - she is an energetic ball of fun. She shows her affection by jumping up for cuddles and loves to show you her love with lots of smooches. She is happy to chill during the day whilst we work, either sleeping on the sofa or outside sunbaking on the grass. Maddi loves her chew toys and can spend all day going between her toys to play.

As Maddi is a 10 kilo beagle puppy she will grow to Beagle size which is a small / med

Breed info

Now Beagles are a very special breed. They are a scent hound and their noses rule their lives lol

They can be known to dig out of backyards when bored and can becomes barkers if un stimulated

My favourite things are

- Loves chew toys/ tennis balls, she will run around with her toys and bring them back most of the time, wanting you to throw it around.
- Loves her cuddles, and will sit next to you when chilling on the sofa.
- Enjoys walks around the parks, visiting dog parks for socialisation
- Smelling all of the new scents during her walks
Human Interaction

- A little shy at first when meeting new people, she may bark at first. Will approach to say hello and for a welcome pat and is well mannered.

- Is good with children, although likes to jump, so have to be careful around smaller kids

- Can get a little excited and may overwhelm some people or children with the jumping and kissing

- Has not had much exposure yet to large crowds. Has no issues with small groups of people outside of shops etc. Is curious and wants to say hi to most people that walk past.

Obedience

- Walking on a lead is not too bad, although she can get distracted by smells.

- Has slipped out of her harness once, so she knows how to get out of it, so would need to take care on walks and when getting in and out of the car.

- Is friendly to other dogs and wants to run up and say hello

- Can be a little anxious in the car, unsure at this stage whether it is nerves or fear. Has had a few accidents in the car, so would need to make sure you have adequate seat protection/covers and towels handy. Will need to work on this.

- With a little treat as a reward, can Sit and Stay on command

- Can fetch and may return if there is a reward

- Recall is a work in progress. Off the lead she may ignore and just run in the opposite direction

Animal Social Skills

- Have met other dogs - is quite friendly

- More playful with small/medium size dogs

- She has not met any cats, so am unsure how she would be with them

Food

- Is not to picky, eats dry food (optimum chicken) and dog Roll (Prime Chicken)

- Will eat the dog roll fresh and polish it off, although will graze on dry food when she is hungry

- Loves schmackos and hooves

- She showed early signs of food aggression, where she was covering/protecting her food during meal time and would growl. This has improved a lot, although we would recommend caution during her transition and with younger children during food time.

Independance

- When alone, has spent her time in the backyard under cover

- Has toys, a bowl of dry food and a bowl of water to keep busy

- Has not destroyed any plants or furniture and have seen her snoozing on the grass in the sun

- May bark at other noises/dogs whilst outside alone

- Can display at times cries/scratching at the door to be let in. This has improved a lot, although at times still shows some separation anxiety. Would need consideration and continuous work.

Bathing & Hygiene

- Doesn’t mind the bath, have had a number of baths and has just stood there whilst the foster carers pampered/scrubbed and like to run and get away when attempting to dry her with a towel

- She doesn’t like loud noises so wouldn't recommend a dryer on her

- Her fur does shed a little, so will need to brush regularly to remove loose hair

Sleeping

- Sleeps on a doggie bed beside her foster owners bed at night with a blanket and a toy

- Sleeps all the way through the night from 10pm - 7am (no toilet breaks required)

- Settles really well, may take a few minutes to work out her comfy spot

Exercise

- Enjoys her walks, or playing in the backyard. Currently enjoying 2 walks a day at around 15-30 mins each.

- Does like to spend time socialising with other dogs.

Inside the home

- Is toilet trained, there were a few times during transition where she had an accident inside, this has settled down and has been really good since.

- May walk between the door and owner consistently to get your attention

- Does jump on and around the sofa, although is not destructive - has not chewed any furniture / shoes / clothes etc

- Enjoys chilling on the sofa with her head in your lap whilst watching a movie etc

- Does not like loud noises, such as vacuum or blender - will run away and go into another room

- Can go up and down stairs

- We haven’t let her up on or sleep on beds

- Does enjoy socks, so you may need to keep loose clothing up off the flood or else she may steal them for her own treasures

Ideal Home

- Would recommend a family with a medium / large backyard secure where family have time to play and walk on a regular basis

- Needs shelter outside for weather / sun protection and is more of an inside dog.

- Would likely be friendly with other dogs in the home as long as they are small/medium and must be friendly and calm in nature and love to play

- Children with dog experience and/or over 8/9 years old - just so that there is no concern with the jumping/kissing

- No cats in the home

Maddi is going through that " puppy stage" of chewing and she can also get ectibale and a little jumpy when she first meets new people so we are seeking a dog experienced home who are prepared to continue her training
