Rita is a beautiful, playful young kelpie x wolfhound. She is super affectionate, very funny and wants to make you happy.
Rita loves everything, especially people, food, walks, dogs, snuggles, peanut butter, chew toys, running, the beach, swimming, splashing, sniffing, did I say peanut butter?
Rita is smart and has learnt lots of new things in foster care. Rita:
* lies down to show calm before eating,
* sleeps in a crate overnight,
* walks on the halti (learning),
* loves learning her obedience manners,
* is (95%) toilet trained (just the odd excitement/anxiety wee),
* not aggressive with other dogs,
* is learning how to respect older dog’s snooze times,
* very social with all people,
* loves getting out and about,
* travels well in the car,
* has not destroyed any shoes, cushions etc in foster care,
* has been left alone for around 4 hours with no destruction,
* has not made any attempts to escape the garden,
* will snooze near you after a walk,
* loves to snuggle on the sofa in the evening,
* loves her ears and her beardy chin scratched,
* peanut butter licky-mats are her absolute favourite or a good dog chew, she will smash through treats if you let her and then go and see if the pantry door is open….
* Rita is easy to train as she loves her food.
Rita is still a puppy and has puppy energy, sometimes she needs some help to make good choices, as do lots of dogs this age. Rita potentially hasn’t had a lot of previous training or dog socialisation, so this will need to be planned into her new life. She is not aggressive with other dogs, just excitable and has had lovely calm interactions on the lead with other dogs (and then wants play!). She is in
foster care with another dog who is a bit older and has had to put Rita in her place. Rita also needs some help to know when to choose to be calm, firm but gentle guidance and time in the crate or somewhere quiet for naps is a good option in the home, and more lead training outside the home.
Rita was nippy coming in to foster care, this seems to have gone with training and redirection, but younger children are not advised for Rita until that has definitely gone, as the nips were linked to over excitement, and they did shock the 10-year-old human.
Rita is smart and active, and will come with her own ideas, so someone with knowledge and experience, of higher intelligence and higher energy dogs is best for Rita (she is 25kg) and plenty of space for this un-coordinated love-bug and time to get out and about with her. Another dog in the home is fine but will need to be managed as Rita is still learning how to respect other dogs when she
wants to play.
Lots of love and a little investment in this beautiful cuddly puppy will reward you with the most amazing adult dog. She really is a little/big treasure.
