About Riker - 3 Year Old Dane X (On Trial)
Riker is a 3-year-old bouncy, affectionate medium-sized bundle of joy who weighs 23 kg and stands 63cm at the shoulder. Could you be the family that he will love forever?
Riker is looking for a family who are either home a lot of the time or who have another dog for company and for him to play with as he would not be happy to be left alone every day for extended periods. He thrives on human interaction and will reward you freely with lots of snuggles.
Riker would be best suited to a family with an active lifestyle and who will understand his need for exercise and mental stimulation. A large yard to do zoomies in would be ideal and he would enjoy a long walk each day. Riker is fully house trained and needs to be allowed inside even while you go out. He may not do your housework while you’re out but he definitely won’t create any more for
you either. He is not at all destructive or a chewer.
Riker has quickly learned to sit, stay and lie down on command. He is very reward motivated, so training with his favourite, high-reward treats will make ongoing training easier. He has no food or toy aggression at all and will sit and stay whilst his food is being put down. He walks well on a Halti lead but will still need some ongoing training to stop him pulling on an ordinary lead. Although he will “stop” and “sit” when asked, he can still be reactive to other dogs whilst on his lead but this is because he wants to greet them and make friends. His exuberance means he is not suited to children under 12 years.
One of his favourite things is a big off-lead bush walk with a couple of his doggy friends. He has shown good recall and will come when called (most of the time). He loves being with people, so sleeps in his carers bedroom on his own bed but would also happily share yours if invited.
So, if you are looking for a bouncy, affectionate medium-sized bundle of joy to join your family, then Riker’s your boy!! Having bonded so much with his foster carer it would be ideal for Riker to have a slow transition to his new family to ensure that he is the best boy he can be for his forever family.
Someone from the Port Stephens area would be great as it would make a slow transition easier (also you would have built-in baby sitters nearby)!
For more information on Riker, please contact his carer on cumbrian1@hotmail.com. Riker is in foster care in Salamander Bay, NSW and is available for adoption interstate. His adoption fee is $400 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.
