Albie - Border Collie(On Trial 4/12/22)

Meet Albie! A 14 week old black and white, Border Collie x Cattle Dog pup. Albie is trying to play it cool by pretending he is shy, but the second he warms up to you, he will show his true colours and start wiggling his little butt waiting for pats and cuddles. Albie loves to follow his foster sister (15yo Moodle) around the house with kisses and play with her in the backyard. He loves to play with his enrichment toys that encourage him to sniff out his food, and loves to take his toys on grand adventures around the backyard.

In the short time he has been with his foster family, Albie has transformed from a scared and timid pup, into a gentle, smart, and hilarious little dog. Albie is learning to trust people again, and has completely come out of his shell since joining his foster family. Albie has learnt his name, and has learnt that outside is the best place to go to the bathroom. Albie is learning to sit, and be respectful of his foster sisters food. Coming from a big litter, Albie had to wrestle his siblings for food, but has quickly learned he no longer needs to do this and trusts his people to feed him multiple times throughout the day. Albie is enjoying being inside watching his foster family’s day go by, and is happy to be left alone for short periods of time as long as he has a friend.

Albie hasn’t had much experience walking on the lead, as he is awaiting his last vaccination, though is practicing walking on the lead around the backyard. He will need lead training to continue in his new home. Albie is more than happy to wear his harness, provided it doesn’t have any fun dangly jewellery on it to chew on. Albie loves his crate, and will happily take himself there during the day to relax. Albie is learning to accept the crate is closed during the night to keep him safe, so he yells his goodnights for a few minutes after the door is closed to make sure everyone feels the love. When Albie gets a bit bigger and doesn’t need so many toilet breaks through the night, he will be more than happy to stay in his crate the whole night with the door open.

Albie’s perfect forever home will have an active lifestyle and understand that he needs exercise and mental stimulation. Albie has been loving learning from his foster sister, and so would love a polite sibling to continue teaching him to be well mannered. As Albie is learning to trust people again, he would be best suited to a family with older children, who understand he will need time to warm up to them. Albie is excited for a family who are happy to make time to be home as he grows, so he learns their routine and adjusts to their lifestyle. Because Albie is going to be much taller as he grows, he thinks a secure tall fence with no gaps will be best. Albie will also need a relatively big backyard to accommodate his much-loved zoomies.

As Albie is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he will need to be returned to a DRN approved vet for desexing when he is approximately 5/6 months old.
