Medical Notes - Milton has three legs.
After months in care, Milton has healed from his leg amputation and is finally ready to start searching for his forever family. Milton arrived into our care as a very sick 5 week old kitten. He was born in a couple's backyard to a wild mumma cat, and was brought into our care after he fell off of their verandah and suffered a spinal injury.
When he arrived Milton couldn't use his back legs, but the more urgent concern was that him and his brother had a red blood cell count that was so low they were hours away from dying. They were so anaemic (5%) that their bodies were starting to shut down, and they didn't have the strength to lift their own heads. They received a blood transfusion and Milton was treated supportively for his spinal injury. Amazingly Milton responded so well that he was up and walking within a few days, and didn't suffer any long term paralysis.
Milton was then in for a bumpy ride when his back feet started swelling up. He developed vascalitis in both of his hind feet, and devastatingly one of his feet became infected. Despite several surgeries, Milton's foot was unable to be saved, and the decision was made to amputate his leg.
Milton is a gorgeous natured boy who is the perfect mixture of sweet and affectionate, but also cheeky and fun. He loves cuddles and snuggles, especially at night time. Milton needs a home with another young and friendly cat for company as he loves to cuddle and play with his foster siblings. He would also suit a home with gentle dogs and respectful children. Milton's new home must be 100% INDOOR ONLY unless he has access to a safe and secure outdoor enclosure.
Please get in touch with us if you would like to know more about our gorgeous boy, or if you would like to arrange a meet and greet with Milton. 🐾
Adoption details
If you would like to know more information about any of our rescue animals, our rescue group, or to arrange a meet and greet, please email us. Please provide us with your name, email address, contact number, and some information about yourself, and the home you have to offer one of our rescue animals.
About us:
Gary and the Handicats Rescue is run soley by a Vet Nurse who works shift work and also cares for sick and high needs rescue animals. We strive to get back to you within 24 hours, but during busy kitten seasons there may be a delay. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Please note we do not run on a "first in first served" basis. We screen applicants well before proceeding with adoption. Vet and rental references may be required for certain special needs adoptions.
We receive a large amount of interest in our handraised kittens, and certain special needs animals. Please understand that if you're application isn't successful, this may just be due to the amount of applications we have had for that particular animal, and not because of the home you have to offer. Preference is always given to our past adopters.
Meet and Greets:
• Meet and greets are held in an environment where the particular cat or kitten feels most comfortable.
• Please do not bring your own animals to a meet and greet.
• We do not allow any of our animals to be taken home on the day of the meet and greet. Special circumstances may be considered.
Picking up you're new family member:
• You MUST bring a safe, secure, and size appropriate carrier for your baby to travel home in. We do not have carriers to provide new adopters, and we will not send home one of our rescue animals in a cardboard box or a washing basket. If a carrier isn't able to be provided, your adoption will be cancelled.
