About Birdie
Beautiful Birdie is a well-practised pet, having lived in another home for 12 months
before coming into foster care. She is currently living with feisty foster sister, Honey the Chihuahua and her wonderful foster carers who work from home. Birdie is a sweet soul, who loves nothing more than the company of her humans, playing with
her toys and, most importantly, food!
At home Birdie is a delight to have around. She will be your partner in crime all day
long and even enjoys keeping you company while running errands in the car. Because she loves her human companions so much, Birdie has previously shown some signs of separation anxiety. Her foster carers have worked really hard with Birdie on her ‘alone time’ and she can be left alone for periods of time, but Birdie would really prefer a home where she can spend more time with her adoring family than not. If you’re looking for an affectionate snuggle buddy who will always be pleased to see you then Birdie could be the hound for you!
Birdie’s other great passion in life is food (naturally). This means she can sometimes
be a little tricky to extract from the kitchen at mealtimes. While she doesn’t beg, she
is definitely living for the day that a scrap or morsel comes her way. This cheeky ninja has also been known to counter surf and swipe whatever she can get from the
kitchen table or bench, so her new family will have to be mindful of keeping things
above ‘Birdie height’.
Out in the wider world, Birdie sometimes can become a little overwhelmed and will
often ‘freeze’ on walks and busy main streets are definitely not her thing. Despite
this, she is always keen to get out and about in the morning and will wait patiently by the door until it is time to go. Her new family will need to be able to go at her pace
and slowly introduce her to her new surroundings. Birdies ideal walk consists of
sniffs, sniffs and more sniffs!
Unfamiliar dogs can be a little scary for this little lady, particularly when she is on her
leash. She really appreciates her own personal space (who doesn’t?!) She has
occasionally shown her teeth to other greyhounds and can react fearfully to
smaller/high energy dogs which isn’t the ideal way to make new friends. Her new
family will be able to help her navigate the world of doggy introductions slowly and
carefully.
Adoption details
1) Please email adopt@amazinggreys.com.au
2) Our adoptions team will send you an application form so we can learn more about you, your household and lifestyle
3) Once you submit an application, a volunteer from Amazing Greys then conducts an in person home check so that you can learn more about us and our community (all of our volunteers are fully vaccinated and must abide by our COVID Safety Plan)
4) Based on the home check, our adoptions team will suggest a suitable match for you*, and a meet and greet will be arranged with the foster home
5) After the meet and greet, should you decide to proceed the greyhound will be placed on a 3 week trial with you
5) At the completion of the trial period, our $400 fee will be due and the greyhound becomes an official member of your family!
Our team will keep in touch with you throughout the process and help you to settle in your new greyhound; but you will also have lifetime support, at any point post adoption our team can assist with referrals to qualified behaviourists and also providing resources and in home consultations where required.
*Where a suitable match is not available, you may be placed onto a wait list. Please note, we do not cat test and may refer applications with small animals to organisations that are able to assist with a placement
