About Tia - 5 Year Old Shih Tzu(On Trial 9/11/22)
Tia is a 5 year old female Shih Tzu cross and weighs in at 6.5kg. Although she is shy and timid, she is a lovely calm, gentle, beautiful natured girl, who relishes in following you around all day and being involved in all activities. She thrives on affection and positive, gentle conversation, and is sitting on my lap as I type this profile.
She happily shares our home with a younger larger female dog and the regular visits from our sons Border Collie. She loves her daily walks with the other two dogs and will often pop next door to check on our neighbours poodle as our back yards have easy access.
Tia is great on the lead and happy to meet other dogs that approach, but more cautious when meeting new people at first. She will make a wonderful watchdog and will let you know if there is any stranger danger.
She is an indoor dog and is fully housetrained as long as she has access to outdoors. My dog-door flap is more suited to the larger breeds, which makes it difficult for her to manage, so we make sure there is always an open door for her. I am sure she would master one if it was more suited to her size.
Tia has excellent recall and will always come when called. We are a work in progress learning to sit on command. She travels well in the car on the backseat hammock with the other dogs. We live on the lake and she has very happily experienced going out in our boat, although her swimming is only paw deep.
She sleeps inside in her open crate at night and likes it to be covered with a blanket and positioned in a quiet place where she goes sometimes when things get a bit hectic. She is fine left alone at home with our dog for short periods of time but not all day.
Tia is easy to groom as she has a light coat which is easy to wash, brush and dry. I wash her in my laundry tub and she will tolerate a blow dry if necessary.
She is an absolute pleasure to have in our home. She is easy going and happy to keep you company all day. She has not been tested with cats and would probably find young children too stressful.
Please note that only those who have completed the on line application will be considered.
To register your interest in adopting Tia you can fill out the adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
PLEASE NOTE: When applying for our dogs and puppies, please ensure to list the name of the dog you wish to adopt. Please do NOT just list the reference number or the microchip number as this will delay your application reaching the correct foster carer.
You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au or www.petrescue.com.au
Tia is in foster care in the Valentine, NSW area. They are not currently available for interstate adoption. The adoption fee is $600.00 and they are desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.
PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provides individual listings with specific requirements for each foster dog. If you submit an application or inquiry and DO NOT receive a response within 5 business days, please understand that you have not met the specific requirements for this dog. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time.
