Lulu is the absolute perfect family doggo, loyal and steadfast in her love for her humans. She is a quiet, gentle soul that loves her pats and human contact. She would be great with humans of all ages, even little kiddos. She hardly barks, not at all jumpy and fairly low maintenance. She is not mouthy and rarely licks. Her way of interacting is to put her paw out and put it on her human’s arm and gently nudge with her head, looking for physical contact. She has a unique trick of sitting up on her haunches and putting both her front paws up like she is begging! She is very loveable and is the sweetest natured dog who just wants to be loved!

She greets her humans with a wagging tail and ears that have a life of their own. It is one of her main ways of communicating. She is constantly watching and anticipating her human’s approach and her hope is indicated by the speed of her tail. It is like her tail is playing the game “hot and cold”. When the humans get closer and closer the tails wags faster and faster.

Her favourite activities are to snooze on the couch or follow her humans around. She wants regular affection, cuddles, belly rubs and back massages. When she has not seen her humans for a few hours, she sooks and gives little whines which is her way of saying that she has missed her humans!

She is fully house trained and will let herself in and out through the doggy door. If we leave the sliding door slightly ajar and instruct her to come in, she is capable of getting her snout in and even at times using her paw to push open the doors.

FOOD

She is not a big eater and is happy to have whatever you give her. She likes raw bones and if not hungry she will bury her bones to save them for a rainy day. She eats when she is hungry and seems to have been fed home cooked meals as she is always looking to the kitchen.

SOCIALISATION

When she meets other dogs on her walks, she is keen to interact with them. However, she is not that interested in prolonged interactions. If a dog is too active or in her space, she tends to give a small cautionary growling noise to indicate that she does not like it. She completely ignores the barks of the neighbouring dog over the back fence. She will sit calmly by her humans during visits or walks and is very patient. For these reasons we feel she is suited as an only dog home .

OBEDIENCE

Lulu is well behaved and will stop at a crossing when told to do so. Most times she will stay and sit when instructed to do so. She keeps general boundaries and is not mischievous or get into things that she shouldn’t. She rarely chews or digs and is happy to just lie around as long as she gets frequent pats from her humans.

ENRICHMENT

She is not into toys or games and is happy to just laze around on the couch or in the sun. She does enjoy dismantling squeaky toys. One or two walks a day are the only enrichment she requires and thoroughly enjoys these.

Lulu loves a daily walk and is very well behaved on a lead. She loves stopping and smelling where all the other dogs have been and leaves her scent by frequent little wees at strategic points on the walk.

She also greets all visitors and likes to smell any strangers who she might encounter on her walks, especially if they have been around dogs recently. She is definitely tuned into smells from outside her territory, as she will always do a ‘smell over’ of her own humans when they have been out and about.

SLEEPING

She sleeps all night quietly in the laundry on cold nights or outside on the deck on warmer nights.

IDEAL HOME:

We feel that Lulu will be best suited to an only dog home and a perfect companion for humans of all ages. When she first came into foster, she was wary of male humans and is very comfortable with her foster mother. She has now got used to her foster human father and brothers but might need some time and soft approach to get comfortable with others. She will be the most loyal friend and would even suit families with young children because of her gentle and calm personality. She just needs a home where someone is able to spend time with her at various times of the day and will give her the love and attention that she needs.
