About Marnie
This week we are marking the not so happy milestone that our gorgeous Marnie has taken the spot of longest visitor at Shelly’s Place.
Marnie came to Shelly’s Place 242 days ago. She was found in a park all by herself, covered in cuts but despite this was still able to trust humans so was brought in to care.
Her eagle eyed foster carer noticed that her gums looked quite red and her eyes were weepy so she was taken for a health check to our wonderful vets Benny and the Pets. During the health check it was discovered that Marnie has FIV.
Approximately 14-29% of Australian cats have FIV and, like in humans, it affects immune function. Despite this, with good care many FIV+ cats are expected to have normal life expectancy and a similar quality of life to other cats.*
Marnie is a super chilled cat and unlikely to ever raise a paw to anyone but as FIV is transmittable via deep bites from fighting we think she would be best suited to being the only cat in the house or in a home with other FIV+ cats. She will also need to be an indoor only cat but she’s fine with that because indoors is where the beds are 😀
Cats who are FIV+ are often overlooked as people are concerned about the risk of infection however FIV is ONLY transmittable to other cats so households with
kids ✅ dogs ✅ guinea pigs ✅ etc etc are all suitable homes for this girl.
She’s happiest in a sunny spot, preferably on your bed, where she will watch the world go by. If you are looking for a cat that doesn’t sweat the small stuff (or any stuff) she’s your girl. She’s great with kids, dogs and pretty much anything life throws her way.
If you would like to know more about Marnie or, even better, adopt her please get in touch.

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS:
1. An Adoption enquiry should be made via shellys.place.rescue@gmail.com. Please tell us about the home you are able to offer including:
- number of adults living in the home
- number of children and their ages
- number and species of pets and their ages
- whether you rent or own your home and the property type (house, townhouse, unit)
- if you have approval to own pets in your home e.g. strata, rental agreement
- why you are looking to adopt
- will the animal be an inside pet, outside pet or both
- have you found a specific cat or kitten you would like to apply for.
Please remember to include contact information including a phone number.
2. Once your application has been received, one of our volunteers will contact you for a phone interview. This is to determine whether one of our cats or kittens will be a good fit for your home. We all want long-term success in placing rescue animals, so finding the best fit for the animal AND the family is very important.
3. 'Meet & Greet' with the animal and their carer will then take place if the application is approved.
4. A Property check will take place via a video call (due to Covid restrictions). Once this has been successfully completed, adoption paperwork finalised and the adoption donation processed, the pet can be collected from foster care.
5. A 14 day settling-in period commences once the animal has been collected from foster care.
6. Adoption is finalised after 14 days. Paperwork/records will be included in an adoption pack.
7. All animals for adoption are kept up to date with vet work until the date of adoption. The pet will be rehomed desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and treated monthly for fleas and intestinal worms. Once the adoption is finalised, the new owners are responsible for all vaccinations and preventative treatments.
As we are run entirely of volunteers we endeavour to respond to your enquiry as soon as we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to hold any animals. Please only apply if you are ready to adopt now.
