Barney  The very special Barney requires a loving and understanding home and in return he offers his loyalty and love Barney is a Bulldog x only weighing in at 25 kilos so he is only a med size boy This handsome boy with his super soft fur and big expressive eyes speaks volumes that will melt your heart just as he has ours. He is looking for his forever home with someone who can nurture his desire for a happy and peaceful environment  Gorgeous boy Barney has been in our rescue for several weeks. When he first arrived, he was a scared timid boy, hiding up near the fence crying all night. We believe Barney was not treated very well prior to coming into rescue as he has had to gain the trust of humans and realize they can be kind and caring. Once Barney feels comfortable, he is a happy soul who will shower you with affection, wanting pats and cuddles. Barney is cautious of new people, and we find he is better with a confident dog to show him the ropes, so we are seeking a home with a kind and gentle female. Please don't apply if you have a male dog as we do not adopt to same sex.  Interaction with humans  We believe Barney may have had an abusive past as he is quite weary of new people so new owners need to understand that Barney needs to be given time to get to know you and will come up for a sniff and pat when he is ready. Over the weeks his confidence has grown, and he is comfortable with people giving him a pat outside the home and is starting to seek out the attention of people he trusts. We are seeking a quiet home for Barney where he doesn't have to continually have numerous people around, We feel he would enjoy a country lifestyle with one or two people who can be patient and kind to him and understand dogs that have come from abusive pasts. Barney seems to bond well with one person and seems to see this as his safe space. He has been in two foster homes, one without dogs and one with, to see which environment he prefers, and we feel he's more suited to a home with another dog as company for his confidence around people. Once Barney gets to know you, he is a playful, affectionate, loving furball.  He will catch a toy if thrown for him and interact well with you, be your shadow, have snuggles on the couch or lying at your feel  Obedience and Training  Barney walks well on the lead, he does not pull, will sit for treats and knows how to drop. He would benefit from group training sessions both for his socialization with humans and other dogs in a controlled environment. Barney has had some brief periods off lead and has shown reasonable recall. New owners will need to develop a strong bond with him before trialing this. He is food driven so will sit and drop for treats. Barney knows  Come/ No/Outside /Sit/ Drop/Wait and Shake  Barney enjoys inside and outside time, with another dog outside for company he has been settled but does prefer to be inside with his humans and will follow up around like a shadow Animal Socialization  Barney is cat friendly; he has met chickens and didn't seem to be particularly interested  Barney is currently living with three dogs and gets along well with them, especially enjoying the company of a 4-month puppy, Barney has been introduced to a few dogs but can display some lead reactivity when walking, especially if a dog is reactive to him. He enjoys a game of zoomies up and down the passage with his housemates, lots of mouthy wrestling and hanging out with the pack. He has at times been annoyed by the other male in the house hence us seeing a female companion for him. When out and about Barney doesn't really instigate play with other dogs and as he is selective in his friends, not a fan of dominant dogs so he's not really your dog park sort of dog  unless it a small park with regular friends   Independence  Barney is well behaved when alone, he has shown no destructive traits and does not bark excessively. He is seen entertaining himself with zoomies and throwing his toys around. When he has new people around, he does like to be near people he knows and will be cautious so giving him space around new people is important explaining Barney needs to come into their space, not them into his.  Additional Info A few weeks after Barneys arrival we sent him off to a training bassemsnet boarding kennel for 3 weeks as he was showing some signs of protecting his foster mum . After 3 weeks of assessment it was reported that there were no signs of this in the boarding facility so we all agreed that it is in a home that he is wary of strangers as he displayed nothing of this during his stay. This tells us when Barney feels safe he is extremely devoted to his family and will potentially become protective of his humans Sleeping  Barney is happy to sleep inside or outside. It is best that Barney has his own bed and not be allowed co-sleeping with his humans as he can overbond with people.   We feel Barney will be more settled in his new home as he has had time to decompress in a loving home but he may regress a little in a new environment  Exercise  Barney loves his walks, He gets quite excited when you get his harness out. He walks well on the lead with very minimal pulling. He does love to sniff the daily news on his walk and leave his comment for others to read. He is friendly to most dogs so all introductions need to be done with caution as with any dog. He has shown some lead reactivity to dogs that show dominance or aggression towards him. Barney will happily walk for an hour or more. Inside the home  Barney is polite in the home and has good manners, He will sit for his food, not destructive He does love to be up on the couch with you but also is easily directed to his bed. He can be wary if new people so a home that can be very mindful of this when visitors arrive Ideal home  Barney will not be rehomed with children as we feel he may become scared and intimidated by loud noisy sounds and feel he is best suited in a quiet adult only home.  A home that has experience with timid dogs and a family are willing to be kind and patient with Barney as he still adjusts to trusting people. He definitely has progressed well since he first came into care and we are looking for a family to continue to nurture this boy with love  A home with a single person or a couple who will give him time to adjust to a new life A home with Cats is fine  A home where people work full time or partime is fine. He is content being outside A home that will include Barney in their everyday life  Banrey certainly shows great confidence in the company of other dogs that he bonds with so we feel that he would do a lot better in a home with another dog. We would definitely be seeking a loving happy and playful female who is gentle and can Barneys BFFIf there are children in the home they must be older teengers age +18 plus
