About Stevie
Beautiful Stevie is a (nearly) 4 year old kelpie who is on the lookout for the perfect home.
Stevie is a loving and gentle girl who adores cuddles from her people (or any people really). She isn’t a jumpy dog and has the basics down-pat: sit, drop, shake, ‘on your bed’, walks well on lead, is toilet trained (uses doggy door) and has excellent recall, though she never goes far when off lead. Stevie is an inside dog, currently sleeping all night on the couch (she would love to sleep on the bed but be warned, she snores..). She is currently living with a baby human and knows to leave them alone. Stevie is moderately active, enjoying one walk a day on lead, and loves a run around if there are no other dogs around or if space permits on her own property. Though she loves to play fetch, she can pull up sore so this needs to be limited (see medical notes). Her favourite things are playing with her people and learning new things; being a working breed she loves to please and utilise her brain. Stevie is great in the car and enjoys trips to cafes and pubs, as long as other dogs give her space. She is not a fan of loud sudden noises and thunderstorms.
Stevie is not a fan of other dogs and will need a home where she doesn’t need to come into contact with other dogs regularly. When out on walks she knows to ignore them if they’re at a distance, but her people will need to advocate for her so she is not approached by other dogs as she does not like them in her space. For this reason, a home located in a quiet or rural area would be best. Stevie has previously lived with a cat and was good mates with him though may resource guard her favourite toys. She has also had exposure to chickens, sheep and alpacas and was uninterested in them.
This love bug is looking for a home with people who will shower her in affection. She will need someone who is home more often than not, as she gets stressed if left for more than a few hours and will not cope with being left alone for 4+ hours at a time. She will also need secure fencing (6ft+) or to be left inside when no one is home. Stevie's people will need to be committed to providing mentally and physically stimulating activities for her so she can thrive. Previous working breed experience would be helpful.
Medical notes
HIP DYSPLASIA - Stevie has very mild hip dysplasia with some arthritis, so her activity levels need to be managed so she isn't overdoing it. Whilst she is not currently on any supplements or medications, it may be beneficial to start six monthly cartrophen/pentosan injections to assist with her joint health, the cost of which is minimal. Daily walks and swimming are helpful for good muscle tone to support the joints, but she is not suited as a running partner.
