About Odin
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Odin
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: English Mastiff
BREED TRAITS: they are good-natured, affectionate, dignified, and protective - being bred as a guardian to family. He will mature into a calm and quiet dog who loves being with his people. He can be aloof to strangers and wary of unknown dogs so early socialisation with people and dogs is essential. Mastiffs can be mouthy so obedience training and clear boundaries are a must. Mastiffs do not like being alone and are definitely inside dogs that want to be lap dogs if given a chance. If not exercised and lonely they will pine and be destructive. They are not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, a little hyper at times, especially when meeting new people, sweet and playful. He's a beautifully natured boy who hasn't had the best start in life but has a ton of love to give to his new family.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Odin loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home and loves a good chew toy. He's a complete cuddle monster and lives for one-on-one time with his person where he can be the centre of their world. He also enjoys rides in the car on trips out and about.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has a loyal and loving nature and just loves to be loved. Plus he's extremely handsome! When you're relaxing he loves to put his paw on you when he's wanting a bit of attention from you.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other friendly dogs of all shapes and sizes once he's comfortable with them. He shows a bit too much interest in cats and wants to chase and play with them, so will need to be in a dog-only home.
GENERAL INFO: Odin needs some training on the lead as he pulls very strongly at present. He is housetrained and will bark at strange noises or when someone is at the door. He hates to be left alone and may try to escape to find his person if left for long periods. His command training is coming along beautifully and with some daily dedicated training it should be a breeze for him. If his owner puts in the time, Odin will be an exceptional companion.
ESSENTIALS for Odin:
** A large breed experienced, active, loving home with someone who can handle his size and strength and who can be there with him for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take him with them when they leave the house.
** An owner who will dedicate time to training him and take him to classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment - this boy is big and strong and deserves good training to enable him to be a great dog.
** Being an active boy, he needs good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity so an active home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for Odin.
** Odin needs a large, high fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Odin loves to be with his people, so he needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and sleep inside at night, preferably as close to his people as possible!
** Odin needs an adult only home due to his size and strength. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with.
