About Wilfred
Hi I’m Wilf or Wilfred (or Goober when I’m doing something particularly silly)
I’m a unique and playful hound looking for the right kind of family to join. I’m an enthusiastic, energetic, curious, cuddly dork and if you show me some patient care and attention I’ll be the perfect addition to your family.
My foster family say I’m very funny in figuring out this whole house thing. I overshoot the stairs sometimes when I’m excited, and do kangaroo hops while my foster mum is bringing out dinner. Sometimes I wedge my head in between the couch pillows and I think I’m being subtle... but I’m not.
I love to play. I love zoomies, and fetch. I still am very cuddly with humans and other greyhounds, and I have been known to use my foster sister as a pillow (she wasn’t super impressed with this but I insist!) I'm unsure about other breeds of dog- they didn't have them where I came from and I'm still learning how to act when I see them out and about.
A yard is essential for me as I need lots of space to run around- I have more energy than your average greyhound fella. I am ok being left on my own for periods of time, and laze around in the sun or explore the garden.
When I first came into the foster care I struggled a bit with adjusting as I'm not as snoozy as other greyhounds. While I have improved significantly I will still need some support from my new family and some understanding that I'm a special boy, I'm a diamond in the rough! I bring a lot of smiles and joy to those around me, and they call me party boy- I'm always on the go and have a big dorky grin!
I have some issues with my eyes and I will sadly lose my sight in the future. Greyt Greys for this reason will support my family always with medical costs and training to help me learn how to adapt and continue to be the happiest, most enthusiastic boy.
Medical notes
Wilfred has early stage cataracts and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) - a genetic condition that means he may eventually lose his sight. There is no treatment or cure, does not require medication (potentially some eye drops in future, but these are not yet prescribed) and some eye specialist appointments which will be covered by Greyt Greys. Training will also be offered to adopter or foster carer to ensure Wilfy stays comfortable in his forever home and can adjust to his new normal.

Adoption details
STEP 1 – ENQUIRE & EOI FORM:
https://greytgreys.org/adoption-form/
If the greyhound you have applied for is unavailable or unsuitable, we can match you with a more suitable greyhound. We may have a hound in foster care who might be well suited to your family.
STEP 2 – LET'S CHAT:
We'll phone you to discuss suitability, clarify any points of your application and chat process and next steps.
STEP 3 – HOUSE CHECK & MEET + GREET:
We'll come to you! The meet + greet is conducted at the same time that a house check is carried out. The meet + greet is the day that your newly adopted greyhound will be able to stay on with you.
Our adoption fee is $375.00 and must be paid on the day of the meet + greet, and prior to starting your 3 week trial. Support from our team is freely available. If you have any issues, we urge you to contact us to try and work through them, as all rescue greyhounds have some period of adjustment.
If after the 3 week trial, you feel that you need to return the greyhound, we will refund your adoption fee (less a $50 administration fee), upon return of the dog and all paperwork and other items that the dog was adopted with.
All of our hounds are adopted out with the following:
> Collar, lead & coat
> Certificate of sterilisation & vaccination
> Flea & worm treated
> Care information for your newly adopted greyhound
> Access to our private Facebook page for foster carers, volunteers and adopters of our hounds. A community with invaluable advice and support.
