About Axle
Hi! I'm Axle and I'm looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR AXLE
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/9tV8XCiCVnnJS6p9A
NOTE: You are unable to meet Axle until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Axle in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• BREED KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• A doggie playmate who isn't overly boisterous would be best for me as they can scare me.
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• Lots of love and attention
• A quiet household - this is what I am used too
• I can be shy at first so I need a family who'll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• I like both friendly male and female dog of all sizes.
• A doggie companion is a MUST to keep me company when my family isn't home. If I am an only dog i can get stressed and a little bit anxious.
• It's ESSENTIAL I receive training in all aspects of my life so I can be the best dog I can be.
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
Things that I don't want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• Young children as I can be a bit shy in new situations and with new people and little ones may accidently scare me. Children over the age of 12 who will be involved with my training should be ok.
• Cats or small animals as I may find them fun to chase
My best features:
• Highly food motivated
• Gentle & placid
• I can sit, shake hands with both paws
• I have had some basic obedience training and am a generally well-mannered dog.
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans once I get to know you.
• I know my basic doggie commands
• Happy to hang out with other friendly dogs
• I am clever and eager to learn so would love a family who will teach me some cool tricks.
• Well mannered
• Love to snooze on the couch
• I walk well on lead but having daily walks should help me improve my lead skills
• I have been housetrained but in a new environment I may need to relearn this.
• Used to being allowed inside
Where I need to improve / Training required
• I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue on with my socialization.
• I love my food so using them as a positive reward should make my training easier.
• I am extremely timid in new situations such as entering a building/home. I MUST have a family who'll allow me inside so I can see it isn't a scary place and to allow my confidence to grow.
• I can sometimes initially be shy and try to avoid things going over my head (lead etc). It doesn't take long for me warm up.
• I am scared of thunder & fireworks and will bark & whine. I will require a safe space to retreat to during these events as well as comfort and reassurance from my family.
• I do walk quite well on the lead once settled, however I can pull if something interests me and can be quite skittish if startled so walking in a harness is recommended.
