Hi friends, nice to meet you!
My name is Chico! I am a loving, enthusiastic and head-strong boy looking for his happy furever after.
After a tragic accident saw me at the emergency clinic to be euthanised, Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld saved me. You see, my owners really loved me, but they weren't in a position to look after me after the surgery I needed, or to fund it. I had been hit by a truck
in a split second accident, and my right leg was badly broken. My owners had given me a beautiful life so far, but as we all know, things change- and with their own health issues to work on, they couldn't manage all this and knew that I needed more than they could provide... or to be released from suffering. Thankfully, my emergency vet team knew of Off The Chain, who answered the late night call and committed to paying for my surgery and seeing me through recovery and beyond! My prior owners were very relieved to know I was going to live, thrive and be loved!
My surgery was a great success, I recovered really well and I am now looking for my happy ending. I am dog friendly, though sometimes I get sooooo excited to meet other dogs that I need to go for a little breather! I am a typical bull terrier...headstrong, confident, loving and loyal. I would thrive with an experienced owner who will love me but have firm boundaries and routine to help me continue on my way to being my best me! I love all people and am slowly learning how to walk nicely on a leash. I am a very social, happy boy.
I am used to other dogs, and cats- while I am cat friendly, I do get very excited and need to be reminded not to chase! I currently live behind a 1.2m fence and show no sign of wanting to escape my yard. At night, I sleep inside in a crate- I will benefit from my owner continuing my crate sleeping, or at least place training me. In the car, I like to be in a crate or harnessed in, as otherwise I jump around the car and that isn't safe! My favourite toys/games are rope toys, calls, and wrestling with other dogs! I know the commands: here, sit, wait, down, crate, up, walk on. I would love to live with another dog if possible; otherwise please do let me have play dates a few times a week with familiar dogs. Don't let my beautiful manners go to waste! Sometimes when we are on walks, I get a bit scared of cars/trucks going by- which is understandable! So lots of positive reinforcement will do me some good with that.
So what do you think? Could I be the one for you? If so, read on...
Medical notes
In June 2022, Chico was hit by a truck, fracturing his right rear Tibia and Fibula. Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld authorised immediate surgery to save Chico’s leg; resulting in him having an intramedullary pin, bone plate and screws inserted. Chico made a great recovery. Adopter understands that occasionally (approx 5% risk) revision surgery is required if implants become unstable and that any treatment required from date of formal adoption is the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. Chico was last examined by his surgeon 24th August 2022, where his leg was xrayed and his gait and range of movement examined; and Chico was deemed fit to return to normal activity and fit for adoption. Heavy exercise and large jumps are not recommended, however Chico may otherwise participate in normal activities. Chico would benefit from 4cyte supplement to assist with any inflammation or arthritis he may experience in later life. Adopter has been provided copy of all documentation regarding surgery & aftercare of Chico’s leg at VSS Underwood.
Chico has a heart murmur that was deemed not requiring treatment or intervention, however should be mentioned and assessed at Chico’s standard yearly health check/vaccinations, as well as his right rear leg.

If you apply to adopt but require us to hold the pet more than 3 days before meeting, we will ask you for a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters. If you follow through with adoption after your meet, the $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
