Remington is a young kelpie x maybe lab mix who, despite his breed, is a very chill guy. He is in care with 2 large dogs who he is very comfortable with. He is also in care with 3 dog-savvy cats who have taught him how to behave around them (most the time).
Remington is house trained, obeys basic commands. He is still a pup and enjoys playing all day with the resident female 9yo shepherd x who occasionally schools him in right or wrong. They are happy to lie on the deck together chewing bones and hoofs when mum is out.
He likes to chew up toys, catch a ball, empty kong food dispensing toys and pinch small things off the coffee table when you’re not looking. He can reach the kitchen bench if he stands on his back legs, so don’t leave your lunch unsupervised or the ham might disappear off that sandwich you were making.
Remington is not the kind of guy that will approach and love on strangers. He is socially nervous around strange dogs and people but is fine with dogs who don't get in his face. He growls and barks and removes himself if uncomfortable.
Meeting new people needs to be on his terms. He prefers to come to you, not the other way around. Once he does, it will be a sneaky kiss on the hand when you’re not looking, then you know he’s ok to pat and chat to. Once he knows you, you’re his best friend.
Remington’s perfect new home would need:
- A resident, preferably female (a calm, patient male would be ok too) alpha dog
- Experienced dog owners who won't misunderstand his personality and accommodate it while working on his social skills
- A family with no little kids
- A family that will include him in their activities, take him for walks
- A family that might like to take him to training or agility training. He’s smart and active and loves being praised
- A home where he is not left for hours on end every day (even with a resident dog)
- A large, secure yard is a must where he has room to roam, run, explore and play.
He travels well, lying down in the back seat until you get to where you’re going.
He has so much untapped potential that a new, committed, active family willing to continue his positive development and ensure that he can live his best life.
He is a good watch dog with a big scary bark (but it's all front, don’t tell anyone) if someone is at the door or somewhere on the property they shouldn’t be.
If you think you have the same interests that Remington does and that you are potentially the perfect match for life, please have your people call his people.
An initial meet and greet will be conducted in a neutral location somewhere in the eastern suburbs, where all the family including their resident dog will need to attend.
