At just 5 months this beautiful boy is a mix of a few breeds. We feel possibly a hint of Kelpie,Border Collie and a few others so we are calling him a crossbreed. Billy Boy is only 18 kilos so based on this and his age we feel he will be a med at full growth

We seriously doubt whether a more placid, friendly, easy -going pup than Billy Boy exists on the planet right now. This gorgeous kid is one of the most delightful pups to have ever come into foster care with his foster family - he is a friend to all people of all ages, respectful and playful with other dogs and is even a good companion to cats. With his quirky little expressive face (complete with a very kissable strawberry spot on his nose), huge brown eyes and beautiful markings (we think he looks like a Bernese Mountain Dog without all the fur!), we know he will make a perfect addition to a wide variety of families. This little guy will provide a lifetime of pride, joy and canine friendship to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him.

SOCIALISATION

Billy Boy has been fostered in a home with four large, boisterous resident dogs. Billy Boy is very respectful of the bigger dogs and reads their body language well, but has grown in confidence with the friendliest of the three resident dogs - a large Golden Retriever. He has enjoyed playing tug of war, wrestling and pouncing around him trying to entice him into a game of chase. Billy Boy has been in foster care with three cats and behaves well around them. He is generally disinterested in them, although will pounce at them in play if they’re silly enough to stay still on the ground for a few seconds longer than necessary. Resident cats who are confident around dogs will be able to put him in his place in no time. Billy Boy has also been in care with children aged 10 years and older and has loved being in their company. He is a bit of a quiet, shy dog who prefers gentle and encouraging play rather than being roughed up and overly stimulated - and so children who are quiet, kind and gentle would be ideal playmates for this boy. As with any pup, any children in the home must never be left alone with him, for the safety of all. Billy Boy would make a perfect dog for families who are looking for a “beginner” dog, provided that everyone understands that he is still a young puppy who may exhibit young puppy behaviour for several months to come. He does still tend to jump up in excitement when he first wakes up or when his people come home after being out - however this is easily managed by ignoring the jumping and rewarding good behaviour when he chooses to sit instead of jumping. He is improving every day, and in a home with more time and attention to devote to reinforcing good behaviour, he will quickly learn the appropriate way to behave even when he is excited.

EXERCISE AND ENRICHMENT

Despite being a working dog breed, Billy Boy is pretty chilled out and does not demand a huge level of physical or mental stimulation. He will require a walk outside of his home each and every day of his life - however he does not need to be walked for hours at a time, just a 30-45 minute walk each day will be enough to keep him happy and healthy.

He has been walked each day whilst in care, mostly off lead in the back paddocks near his foster home. He loves his walks and stays close to his foster carer most of the time. He will take off for short bursts to catch up with his foster siblings but returns to his carer at full pelt as soon as he’s called.

On lead, Billy Boy is excited to begin his walk and pulls a bit on the lead and can weave around in front of his carer. However, once he’s settled into his walk, he is happy to mooch along at an easy, relaxed pace next to his carer. He’s interested in other dogs but is happy to watch them rather than lose his mind with excitement, even when his naughty foster siblings are barking and pulling at the lead. Billy Boy is not a big barker in general and we do not imagine him causing any problems in a suburban environment.

Billy Boy is everything a puppy should be and just loves his toys - he would love a huge basket of toys to play with and to carry around. Like all pups, if there are no toys to play with, he will happily find and chew on anything nearby that happens to take his fancy, including shoes, socks and treasured human toys. His new owners therefore need to be prepared to “puppy-proof” their home to ensure he doesn’t get himself

into serious trouble until he grows out of his puppy phase, which will only be a few short months away. Billy Boy is literally a “clean slate” and apart from already knowing the “sit”command, he requires training from scratch. He is smart and eager to learn and just LOVES treats so he will be very easy to train and will make his owners super proud of him in no time.

TOILET TRAINING

Billy Boy is almost 100% toilet trained and has only had a few accidents inside since being in foster care. These accidents have been a result of his carer not paying diligent attention to taking him outside regularly. With more regular toilet breaks and a reward system, Billy Boy will be reliably toilet trained in no time.

EATING AND SLEEPING

Billy Boy is definitely a lover of naps, especially if he has someone to snuggle up next to on the couch. He sleeps happily with his foster carer when she sits on the couch, with his head resting in her lap. He also settles easily by himself on a dog bed on the floor if he gets beaten to his foster mum’s lap by his foster siblings. Due to the number of dogs living in his foster home, he currently sleeps in the garage with his golden retriever buddy. He whines a little bit to begin with however he settles quickly and sleeps all night. Unfortunately he has been responsible for the chewing of a dog bed or two overnight, but this is the only destructive behaviour he has exhibited whilst in care, and is lessening each night as he becomes more comfortable in his foster home and feels less anxious about whether he will be let out of the garage the next day! He would absolutely love to be allowed to sleep inside near his family once he is reliably toilet trained, and this would likely put an end to him chewing on his bedding.

Billy Boy currently eats twice a day. He eats puppy dry food with a small amount of Prime roll added. It is recommended that puppies be fed on specialist puppy food for at least 12-18 months to ensure their growing bodies get all the nutrition they need.

CAR TRAVEL

Billy Boy is still too small to jump into or out of the car. However, he is happy to be lifted into the car and settles quickly onto the back seat where he goes to sleep while he is being driven around. Billy Boy shows no sign of being affected by travel sickness.

IDEAL HOME

Billy Boy is an absolutely beautiful puppy who would make a perfect match for a wide variety of families. If his new family has an existing dog, it must be an older, friendly female canine companion. He would also thrive as a single dog with all the attention devoted to him. It must also be recognised that he is an active, working dog breed, and as an adult, he will require a daily walk no matter the weather. He must be allowed to live both indoors and out, as a valuable member of his family. Billy Boy is suitable for families with children aged 5 years and above, provided that children are kind and gentle. Billy Boy would also be suitable in a home with existing cats who are confident around dogs.

Billy Boy is adored by his foster family and only the most loving forever home will be chosen for him.
