About Walter
Walter is a beautiful black/brindle Labrador X Golden Retriever raised and trained in the Assistance Dogs Australia program. He is 18 months old, desexed and looking for his forever home!
Walter is a super affectionate, goofy and happy boy. He loves spending time with his people and getting the most pats and cuddles possible. Walter has beautiful home manners, toilets on cue and has an overall calm demeanour.
Although Walter has shown some great qualities during his time in the Assistance Dogs Australia training program, we have decided that he is not suitable to be placed as an Assistance Dog and is better suited to life as a very well-loved pet.
Walter does display some signs of low-level anxiety such as being easily distracted when out and about in public and practicing some scavenging behaviours. He also shows a level of prey drive that requires a level of management not suitable for a working assistance dog. He is quite boisterous during play and does have the tendency to guard his toys.
Due to the above reasons Walter will need to go to a home with no other animals and no children under 12 years of age. All Assistance Dogs are accustomed to spending most of their time with humans inside their home, so his ideal person or family would spend a lot of time at home with him.
Walter is a very intelligent dog so would require both mental and physical stimulation to keep him happy. He would need to be walked at least once a day.
Walter is a healthy young dog. Vaccinations and parasite protection have been kept up to date. If you think Walter could be the right dog for you or you have any further questions, please email Mel at mwatson@assistancedogs.org.au so that I can pass on an application form for you to complete.
