About Rodger
G’day, I’m Rodger and I want to be your best mate.
I am only 2 years old but I have already been through enough bad stuff to last me a lifetime.
I was found all alone and taken to a place called the pound. I know that it sounds pretty scary but for me it was pretty good. You see, they made sure that I had food every day and they let me play with other dogs and they even let me hang out and get snuggles from the staff. I shouldn’t really brag but I was one of their favourites.
The lovely people at the pound said that they would try to find me a rescue to go to and with a glowing report from the pound staff, how could anybody say no?
When I got to the rescue, they took me to see the vet straight away. That’s what they do with all the new dogs and, of course, I gave the vet lots of love. She was so nice, even though she poked and prodded me. She even took my blood but she was very gentle and I licked her.
While the vet was waiting for my blood results, the rescue humans mentioned that one of my legs was a little bit stiff. It was barely noticeable and the vet didn’t think it was anything to worry about but my rescuers asked her to take some x rays, just in case.
When the vet looked at my blood test, she suddenly became quite serious and she had to tell my rescuers that I had tested positive for heartworm. The humans were all a bit sad but I was so happy that I had come to a rescue who had done so many health checks, otherwise nobody would have known until I was really sick.
Luckily, I went straight into hospital and started my treatment. I also had my x rays, and when the vet saw them, she got a big shock.
I heard the vet ring my rescuers to tell them the results and she said that she didn’t even know how I could stand up! My pelvis was actually broken!
Between the heartworm treatment and being on cage rest to help heal my pelvis, time has been going by pretty slowly but now, I am finally able to start the search for my forever family. I should have no issues from my previous heartworm or broken pelvis, the only thing I will require is another heartworm prevention injection in 6 months and it is recommended that I get one, every year (as most dogs do).
I am so ready to put my past behind me and start my new life. I am such a happy guy and I have the most wiggly butt. I love to be wherever my humans are and I am great with other dogs, and I am super friendly. I need a home without cats though.
I am a Staffy mix, and I weigh around 16kg.
Are you ready to share your life with me and show me what happiness feels like?
Love Rodger xx
