About Diesel ~ 6mo Kelpie X(On trial 7/10/22)
Meet Diesel - a beautiful 6-month-old Kelpie X Border Collie who is a fun, loving and energetic boy who loves playing games with his humans - big and small!
Bought in due to unfortunate family circumstance changes, this boy is ready to settle back in with a loving family who want a loyal and playful pup, who will continue training him and knows the best ways to burn some of his energy and engage his smart brain.
Diesel is in foster care with two adults, a two-year-old and a five-year-old and is amazing with the kids. Being a puppy and still learning, he can sometimes get excited and shower the little people with kisses and cuddles, so children confident with dogs would be important. Older kids are preferable so they can be involved with his training - and he can help burn off some teenage energy too! Diesel is untested with cats and pocket pets.
He is very slowly learning that every sock, shoe and teddy bear is not his to grab and run away with, so all the more important to focus on positive reinforcement with his toys. He loves his kong and will happily spend time trying to get to the good stuff inside, and loves playing fetch and tug. He is super happy in the water and will run in for a splash at any opportunity!
Diesel has been crate trained which he picked up very easily in foster care and is currently essential to ensuring he has some down time. He is house trained and sleeps well in the crate overnight only getting up when the family are awake! Diesel can sit, lay down and wait for his ball to be thrown and we are working on him waiting at the door and not rushing in. He is a smart boy and a quick learner. He doesn’t resource guard food or toys
Diesel is non-reactive on the lead, although does pull when there is a lot going on around him, so his new family need to keep working with training him to make walkies enjoyable for all. He has spent time with some older dogs and knows his place in the pack! With a successful meet and greet I believe a big brother or sister would be a great way for him to have company, stimulation and guidance particularly if parents are out of the home. He has shown to have more down time when there is another dog to keep him company.
He has not been tested being left for long periods of time but will be ok for a few hours at a time, possibly more with a fellow doggie. He is a typical inquisitive puppy and has dug one hole, but I believe this is more out of interest then general destructive behaviour or boredom. He has shown no interest in trying to escape but a secure yard would be important especially if being left outside for periods of time. A large yard where he can run and chase a ball or run with his doggie friends would be great for him.
Diesels perfect family will be active and want to involve him in their lives. With some dedicated training and lots of love he will be your perfect loving companion.
