Zeus aka Zeusy aka Big Boy - 10yr Boxer boy!

Zeus came into our care after ending up as one part of an old – no longer useful – breeding pair that was thrown into the pound by their 'caring' previous owner.

Understandably, Chloe, his breeding partner didn't want anything to do with Zeus as well as all other dogs in general, and was rehomed separately. Under the circumstances both dogs were very happy about this.

Now it is Zeus’ turn!

If you watched our foster carer’s videos in our sister group Boxer Rescue Network Chat AUSTRALIA then you already know what a lovable personality Zeus has and although he's years old he still has plenty of spark!!

This gorgeous boy is extremely well mannered, he does not destroy, dig or get into places he shouldn’t...

Whoever Zeus meets, he loves. At home he will follow you around curiously and wants to be included with the family.

Car rides are great! It may mean a trip to the pet store? Or Bunnings? Or wherever it does not matter, he loves them!! – but he does need some support getting into the car, old men arthritis in his hind legs does not allow him to jump in anymore.

Walkies are fantastic too, but only 10-15 mins or he will be sore at night. Yes, getting older is not for sissies!

If you are after a dog that loves cuddles, do not look any further and they will only stop once Zeusie decides it is enough. Being a 36kg lapdog he will nail you down, there is no way of getting up before he did not have his share of cuddles.

Did we mention that he loves food? If you cannot find him, check in the kitchen…

Let’s not forget his age, Zeus is happy to sleep most of the day next to you until it's time to get up for food, but at the same time given the opportunity he will play with toys, follow you around, and engage with you for pretend (very gently) roughhousing (ie pretending to be boisterous with him but being quite gentle so HE thinks he is winning :D ) for play time.

What he really loves is being included in everything and talking to him.

Our foster carer is trying to renovate – he does have a 4-legged supervisor…

Zeus is an inside dog and will only go outside if you are there or toilet..... He does not like to be left outside AT ALL.

He is truly a quite gentle giant but is a big boy so can be overpowering for small dogs with excitement and play. He has no problems meeting other dogs just "unsure" at first until he gets to know, and the tail will wag (low tail position). A quick walk together and he will warm up and get quite excited and wants to play.

Zeusie is quite sensitive, considering the environment he has come from, so no negative reinforcement or yelling at him (not that anyone would!!). He responds well to adoration and general positive vibes. Very eager to please. He just wants to be included as part of the family and feel safe.

Medical:

Zeus suffers from arthritis and is currently on supplements, down the track he may need additional supplements or injections. In winter he needs to be tucked in and kept warm.
He has a bit of a sensitive tummy, and we will advise on the diet that works best for him.

Zeus was diagnosed with early-stage kidney disease and with lots of TLC and diet his bloods bounced straight back to normal. Considering his age, we are cautious, and our vet suggested to run blood and urine tests all 4-6 months, simply to recognise issues early on should they arise and are still treatable.

All in all Zeusie boy is just a senior boxer with lots of personality and guaranteed will make you smile every day. All he wants is being part of the family, not being left alone for too long and he is really loving affection!
