About Gaz
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
NAME: Gaz
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Chihuahua x Jack Russell
BREED TRAITS Chihuahuas love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone. They are sensitive and love their family but can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. They cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and willful but fun with big personalities. Quick learners,so don't dismiss a Chihuahua just because it is small and cute!
Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells need to be well socialised or can become reactive to larger dogs. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.

ASSETS: Gaz is easy going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, and very sweet! Gaz is a quiet little chap who is not really demanding but loves attention from his human. He has a ton of love to give to his new family. In foster he has met the carer's grandchildren and absolutely loves them - their ages are 8+.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Gaz loves to run around the garden and then curl up with his human - he's a real snuggle bug. He is not particularly interested in toys just his human!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Gaz is completely devoted to his person and will want to be near to you as much as possible - he's the sweetest, gentle boy.
OTHER ANIMALS: Gaz gets on well with other friendly dogs and plays well with them. He came to SAFE Esperance with another female dog and so would be happiest if he went to a home with another young, small female dog to play and spend time with. Gaz could also live with a dog savvy cat, he is living with two cats in his foster home and shows no interest in them.
GENERAL INFO: Gaz is not experienced at walking on the lead and will need some training. He is housetrained and learning some commands but would benefit greatly from ongoing training - classes will stretch him and give him structure. He barks when someone is at the door and if the other dogs start barking. He is a little storm phobic and is also frightened of fireworks. He does not dig or chew and has learned to use the doggy door.
ESSENTIALS for Gaz:
** A dog-experienced, loving home where someone is home more often than not, although if he had another small dog for company, he could live in a home with flexible work hours.
** An owner who will continue to train him and build on the great progress he has made in care - classes where he can learn new things would be of great benefit.
** Good daily exercise, trips in the car and being involved in family activities.
** A fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** He loves to be with his person so would need to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night - on the end of the bed if allowed!
Gaz could live in a home with dog savvy children over 8yrs of age who will know to handle him gently, interact and play with him and understand when he needs his own space so that he is not overwhelmed.
If Gaz sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
