Aztec

The big loveable and simply stunning Aztec is now seeking his forever homeHey big dog lovers check out this beautiful wolfhound cross. We feel based on his coat and build he is most probably a Wolfhound x Poodle At just 11 months old the potential for this beautiful boy is unstoppable 
The pic you are seeing as his profile pic  has now changed a bit as the beautiful Aztec has now been to the groomers and sadly most of his coat has had to be clipped off as it was such a tangled mess due to  lack of maintenance. ( Please refer to pics in the adoption platform ) So his new daily are going to have to be very conscious of coat grooming and regular trips to the groomer as with his coat being very curly and poodlish it does grow and wil be an ongoing expense to keep groomed. 
How this boy ended up dumped is beyond words as he is the perfect pooch and a true pleasure to have around Whoever is the lucky person to adopt this boy will be getting a fabulous dog as he is one of a kind. We are  thinking he could be a wolfadoddle (if there is such a dog) as he has a soft curly coat unlike a traditional wolfhound wiry coat. Underneath all the curls is a coat very similar to a poodle, soft and fluffy which appears to be low shedding. He is stunning in looks and in nature. At 11 months he is a placid boy unless he’s out with his mates having a game of chase then watch out as this boy is super quick and loves a big game of ‘can’t catch me’. He enjoys chasing and being chased, usually he is way ahead of his mates at the park. But keep out his way as when he’s playing he has his blinkers on and you don’t want to be bowled over by him lol. All his friends love him, he’s the cool kid everyone wants to hang out with. It has been noticed he can feel a bit uncomfortable in noisy, loud  environments with lots of people but being young most probably has not had a lot of exposure. 
Aztec  is a big gentle teddy bear. He is not a jumpy boy even when you arrive home. There will be lots of tail wags but generally he keeps all four paws on the ground which is fabulous given his size. He loves affection and belly scratches and when inside will often come up to you and put a big fluffy paw on your lap to say more pats please. He came into rescue very thin and matted so we have spent our time fattening him up on high quality puppy food two to three times a day and giving him a much needed groom. 
Aztec is still a pup so new owners must expect some puppy behaviour and be kind and gentle in his training. He has a tendency to still be going through the chewing stage so we often find the odd stick(he seems to have a stick fetish)  or soft toy destroyed. He loves chewing on cow hooves and needs a variety of toys to keep him entertained. Ideally we would love him rehomed with a placid female of similar size as he loves the company of other playful dogs  Being a big active boy he needs space to run and play so no small yard will be considered. Ideally a home near water would be his dream home as he loves having a dip, especially in mud if he can but loves a splash in the local river near his foster home. He will run through any water he can find and often will stop and lower himself into the puddle to cool off. He is regularly needing a hose off when home much to his dislike. Funnily enough he is not a fan of baths Food Aztec knows how to sit and wait for food. Aztec is a bit of a grazer Mr lazy bones will sleep anywhere Currently he spends some of his day outside in the sun and at night sleeps on the dog couch on his own with no issues. He does get up at times in the night to toilet but has access in his foster home to a doggy door. He will happily sleep outside for alot of the time and this seems to be his preferred space so good shelter /deck will be sort in a new home Toileting. When he first arrived he was marking his territory inside and has had a few accidents but with patience this has improved and the last few weeks has shown marked improvement. No number 2 inside. He regularly goes outside via the doggy door by himself. Often dogs can regress when changing homes, just something to be aware of on adoption Grooming .He initially didn’t like the clippers but did settle. He is not nippy at the groomers just requires reassurance. He will also need regular washing if he continues his love of mud baths lol Inside timeHe is settled inside and happy to do his own thing which usually is sleeping. He is independent and not a dog who has to be right by your side. He is often just chilling on his dog couch. He is living with resident dogs but is happy with his own company and space away from them and is often seen lying on the deck on his own. Aztec does enjoy a pat won’t say no to a big cuddle and belly rub, he happily leans into you and rolls over and exposes his big belly for a scratch. He is good inside, not jumpy and  polite for a young pup. Because of his height he doesn’t mind a sniff of the kitchen bench to see what is cooking. He is learning when told to leave the kitchen area. Obviously still being a puppy he will take the opportunity to steal belongings if left lying around. Luckily the Tv remote was found unharmed on his bed Outside time Aztec is happy outside. He very rarely barks unless it is to initiate play with his pals. He makes very minimal fuss when put outside. He will happily be outside on his own when people are home or out. He does enjoy playing with the resident dogs outside and being large he will need space to stretch those long legs. He will chase a ball thrown for him, will run, fetch and then hope someone will chase him. We feel he has been around children as he is drawn to them at the park if playing with a footy or soccer ball. He is gentle but due to his large size will only be rehomed with children over 14 as when running around he is all paws and can easily knock over a small child. Socialisation Well you cannot fault this boy with his social etiquette. He likes to say hello to every dog. He is polite for a young boy and will be submissive in play. So far he has only been pleasant and polite to dogs around him and has not displayed one ounce of aggression. He has met happy dogs, grumpy dogs, old dogs and young dogs. He has spent time with a small puppy and has been extremely gentle with her, lying on his back and gently played all day with her. We can only describe this boy as a big friendly gentle giant and are blown away how such a beautiful boy could find himself in a pound unloved. He is truly a beautiful natured boy. Aztec has been exposed to horses and has shown no interest. He has met a cat was more scared than anything not knowing what it wasWalks Aztec is good on the lead, can be a bit excited when he first heads off, but settles into an amble. Lead walks can take some time as reading the daily news is a must. He likes to know everything that’s going on in the neighbourhood.  Most of the time his walks are at the park off lead. He has a reasonable recall to the name ‘Sammy’.  He has learnt coming back means a treat from foster mum. His recall has been helped by having other residents' dogs in his pack. Ongoing training with this boy is essential to continue his awesome behaviour Ideal home A home with the ability to access water, so beach, river or damHome with another playful Female dog is preferable and if not the ability to socialise daily with dogs of his sizeA home where he can be inside and part of a loving family A home that can afford the costs of a large dog, food and regular grooming At least a medium to large yard. Property is ideal  Small yards need not applyChildren  5  and over due to his size If you do not have the time to ensure this beautiful boy can enjoy his favourite thing which is water please do not apply
