Jayda is a 2 year old little Staffy x who is a cuddly darling looking for her forever home.

At only 16 kilos this beautiful girl will be a wonderful family addition

This young girl has had a rough start in life already, she was dumped in a campground and left to fend for herself

Considering what she has experienced, she has completely come out of her shell and has shown her foster family how much she enjoys family life. She was a little quiet in her first few days at her foster home although we could see that she was going to be a well-behaved girl. She loves cuddles and snuggling up next to you on the sofa and just loves being by your side.

She enjoys chilling out beside her owners, whilst working from home and has loved the regular walks around the block and to her local café. During the cold weather recently, she has enjoyed snuggling on the couch, catching some zzz’s or watching tv.

She has shown a lot of interest in people, wanting to give everyone a cuddle and wanting to interact and ask for pats. With doggies, she has met a few, and have had no issues with any of the interactions so far with large and small dogs. She becomes quite energetic when around other dogs – although haven’t had a lot of time to play with other dogs.

She has also spent time with our teenage daughter and would likely enjoy sharing her home with children 6+.

She is extremely happy to see you and shows that she is excited by coming up for cuddles. This may startle some as she does jump up in excitement. We call her our shadow, as she loves to follow us wherever we go. We have had a wonderful time with her and getting her settled into routine and a family environment. She loves to play and wants you to be part of the fun, loves the tennis balls and squeaky toys and other doggie toys, although is not so great in bringing the ball back.

OBEDIENCE

Jayda is quite well behaved, when at home she is relaxed and likes to chill on the sofa. She will typically let you know that she needs toilet time by hanging by the back door. She likes her toys/balls/rope and will typically come to you with them when she wants to play.

Jayda loves to go for walks, getting excited at the sight of her harness and lead. Typically, she goes for 1 walk a day, for roughly 15 – 30 minutes. She is quite good when seeing and meeting other dogs as long as they are calm in nature.

ENRICHMENT

Jayda is quite settled at home relaxing or playing when she has the energy. At times she will bark when hearing other dogs barking or hears something outside that she is not familiar with. Jayda also loves to explore the outdoors as well, spending time in the backyard exploring and around the neighborhood during her walks.

She loves her toys, especially of the squeaky kind. Will also be attracted to anything she can play tug-of-war with you, usually bringing the toy/rope to your feed and nudging to join in with play time.

SLEEPING

She has been going to bed at around 9.30pm each night, sleeping comfortably in her bed, which is located next to our bed. She settles well and sleeps well. She alerts us during the night if she needs to go out for a toilet break.

She also loves spending time up on the bed and has a habit of trying to crawl and get cozy under the blankets.

We have found during the cold weather that she does shiver and looks for warmth, so would recommend a soft bed & blanket to assist with getting settled (or she may be jumping up on the bed during the night to find warmth).

SOCIALISATION

With other animals: -

Jayda has met a few doggies during her walks. She expresses interest with her wagging tail and energetic body language. These have been relatively short introductions and would recommend slow intro’s with other dogs. We are unsure how she would behave around cats etc.

She has spent a small amount of time at a dog park, experiencing the various types of dogs whilst on her lead. She did seem to enjoy it although we could see that little dogs / dogs getting in her face were irritating her. Play with larger dogs would be recommended.

We feel an only dog home will be a better suited environment for her at this point as although she has shown no aggression ion play she doesn't like dogs up and in her face

With other people: -

She has shown cuddly affection to all of us equally and is happy to sit or follow us around curiously. She has had a number of people visit during her stay. Whilst she has barked at a few initially, after a few minutes she has come around to all and is generally sitting in their lap having cuddles.

She has spent time with our 14yr old daughter and they have loved spending time together. Younger children will need to be supervised as she does have a lot of strength and can knock children over. In addition, she loves playing with her toys so much she may inadvertently nip while trying to take the toy - there is no aggression – just overly excited and wants to play.

FOOD

We have maintained a diet of dry food along with dog food rolls. She does prefer the soft food, eating that first – although does return back to the bowl during the day to finish off her food.

Dry food = Optimum Adult/Large Breed – Chicken Vege & Rice

Wet Food = Prime Dog Food Roll – Chicken with Broccoli & Apple

She loves treats as well, so would recommend these to keep up with her doggie training rewards.

HYGIENE/CARE

Jayda has short hair so is quite easy to look after, she loves the bath – with her sitting in the tub whilst lapping up all of the care & attention. She did have some dry skin upon arrival, so would need suitable shampoo to assist with this.

We have left her at home a couple of times in the backyard and whilst she wasn’t too impressed that we were leaving her, she settles on the bed at the back door waiting for us and is always happy to see you when you arrive home.

TRAVEL/CAR

She loves travelling in the car. As soon as the sound of the keys start to rattle, she hops up with excitement and runs to the front door. She is very well behaved in the car, sitting in the back seat looking out the windows. She does get excited when seeing other dogs during the drive, so ensure she is buckled up

IDEAL HOME

We feel Jayda would thrive in a family home where she can be loved and taken care of. She shows her affection to all of those within the family that are willing to spend time with her, playing outside with her and letting her relax at home with them. She is an inside or outside dog, preferring to be inside recently due to the cold, although equally loving it outside during the sunny days. She will need to be stimulated with regular walks outside, with her family investing time in her and ensuring she has daily enrichment and continues with general doggie training.

Requirements: -

• No other dogs in the home a this point in her life
• Medium/Large sized backyard, well secured with shade
• No children under 6, recommend any children have had prior exposure to handling dogs (for example she is a bit jumpy and that may frighten inexperienced children)
• Time for regular walks
• Would benefit from regular dog socialisation
