About Walrus
AVAILABLE NOW
💜 Special Case September 💜
Wonderful boy Walrus is a work in progress.
This handsome blue eyed boy is a big chunky bundle of potential. He's made great strides in foster care but has a way to go yet to be the purr-fect pet.
His ideal family are easy going, patient people who are happy to become his friends at his pace.
A number of people have met Walrus and said ""but surely, a cat who looks like that wasn't a stray!"" but he was. We're pretty confident that Walrus was born in the bush and that his appearance is simply the result of a lucky lot of genetics.
When he arrived in care in a trap, delivered from Wundowie by the rangers, he was MAD.
For a long time, Walrus hissed and lunged and swiped and growled. No shy guy, he threw himself at me while I tried to clean his space and distracting him with food was my only option.
We've come a LONG way in a fairly short time - he's got a fast left hook but he's a smart cookie who is rapidly responding to training with food rewards and is learning what 'gentle paws' look like.
He's become comfortable with being stroked while he's eating (are we seeing a theme here... the way to his heart is definitely through his stomach!)
And he has a lovely chirpy meow that he offers up while gazing into my soul with those big baby blues, telling me that he knows I'm his friend and he just still needs more time to trust.
Walrus loves other cats. He's really playful and will likely thrive in a home with another playful cat to help bring him out of his shell.
We're unsure about dogs but he's likely to be okay with a cat-friendly dog.
He's unfortunately too swipey for kids at the moment but in a grown up house he will really be a unique addition.
I don't know exactly what Walrus' behavior/temperament will look like in a month or 6 months or a year.
At his core, I believe he's a playful, cheeky, food-loving lad who wants to give and receive love but isn't quite sure how yet.
He's likely to always be a quirky fella.
But I've got a big soft spot for this guy. ❤️
Walrus has been desexed, microchipped and vaccinated and he's clear of FIV/Felv. He does have a watery eye that comes and goes and hasn't received treatment as we're not at the stage of eye drop administering 😬
He's roughly 3 years old and is available to adopt for the donation of your choice.
We'll support you through the adoption process and he'll come home with a crate on loan for the settling in period.
Please message the page or email avonvalley@safe.org.au if you would like to offer Walrus the second chance he's longing for.

💜Special-case September 💜
Long-termers, returnees, shy guys, FIV positive kitties, specific dietary requirements...
We have a selection of feline friends in care at the moment who are over-looked and forgotten. ❤️
They all have dreams of being ⭐chosen ⭐
They crave (and deserve) a loving home as much as any other.
This month we're on a mission to rehome as many of our Special Case kitties as we can!
With a new kitten season already upon us even though the last one never really ended... now more than ever we want to rehome these kitties before we are swamped with the cute babies who get all the attention.
All Special Case kitties are available to adopt for the donation of your choice.
Some are looking for Forever-Foster placements, meaning their ongoing vet bills will be covered by SAFE too!
Please note that these kitties have wildly different considerations! Most only require a minimal amount of extra care. If you think you can accommodate any kind of special kitty, we would LOVE to hear from you.
Your home could be their home 🏡🏡🏡
