Jami – - is a very handsome and outgoing little boy who is a 2-year-old Mini Fox Terrier approximately 4.5kgs. He is just the happiest boy all the time, very active and energetic who will play and explore all day. He will be your constant shadow and is very curious about his surroundings. He is always excited to see you and hang out with you wherever you go. He does get a little nervous of unknown noises. He has access to inside and outside and will move around throughout the day keeping himself entertained. He can be a bit mouthy but that is due to his age and having fun – all the time !!…. Lol.

He has so far proven to be a very clever boy who is learning new things all the time. As he is a young boy, he will need to attend Obedience class to learn to socialise with other dogs as he is unsure of them and reactive when we see them on our walks. We feel scared of other dogs and that's why he reacts that way. He has already learnt to sit for his food, wait and ‘ok’ to heel while on our walks. He would love for his forever family to continue his training as he has lots of potential. He loves to play with toys and is very food motivated. He runs and jumps around the yard and explores everything.

He has been around school aged kids, although he can be a bit jumpy through pure excitement to meet new people. Jami will happily smother you with love. He can even stand on his back legs like a meerkat, and he constantly wags his tail which puts a smile on the face of everyone he meets.

OBEDIENCE

Jami is a funny wiggle worm when you try to put on his harness and lead – he is so excited to go for a walk. He is learning to walk on a lead and is improving each time we go. He will need to be walked once or twice each day to go and explore places, and people. Jami will need to attend dog training to further his training and for socialisation. with other dogs

He has been to the local lake and curiously watched the water birds swim and walk on the grass. He does want to chase them, so keep him on a lead. I have taken treats with me on walks and if he sees another dog - I will call his name to distract him until the other dog has gone by.

Jami has started to learn different commands since he has been here. He can sit for his food, wait at the kerb when on his walks and when I say “ok” he will go across the road with me.

As a young dog, his attention span is short as there are lots of things to see and do in his world. I am trying to teach him the doggy door, but he doesn’t seem interested yet. This is a work in progress.

Jami is very playful and will go for hours so he will need enrichment to keep him stimulated during the day if he is left alone. He can get bored, start barking and be destructive – he has chewed a few toys and blankets. He has been given a Kong with frozen Bega peanut butter and yoghurt. He loves to chew everything and will even steal whatever is lying on the floor or close to it. He has taken towels, blankets, shoes, socks, slippers etc and will drag them outside just for fun. He likes to be wherever you are and will follow you everywhere, so he doesn’t miss out on anything you are doing. He really has a lot of fun playing tug-of-war with his human and he loves to be chased. He can be a bit nippy due to his young age. A gentle “No” tends to help him stop.

FOOD

Jami y is currently eating two meals a day of Blackhawk – Adult Small breed – Lamb and rice dry food with sweet potato, pumpkin, and Greek yoghurt – lactose free. He will sit for his food and wait for his dinner. He has shown no sign of food aggression and will take food from your hand gently. He can be a bit picky with his food as he is still learning what is nice and what is not. He has tried other vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts and carrots. A slow feeder bowl is the best way to feed him as he inhales the food too quickly and then tends to cough as he has eaten too fast.

Treat toys have been a great hit as they combine two of his favourite things to do – food and things to play with. He has had a few different treats like liver treats, dental chews and pigs’ ears

SLEEPING

Jami has been sleeping inside in his warm fluffy bed with a fleece blanket. He tends to get a bit sleepy around 9pm which is when I take him outside for a toilet stop before going to bed. Once he settles down, he is very quiet. He will come and see you in the morning very spritely and energetic for a cuddle and belly rubs and ready for the day ahead. Jami has moved his bed and blankets around the house and even taken the bed outside to sit in the sun in comfort to watch the world go by. He looked very pleased with himself. 😊

TOILETING

He has had only two accidents inside since he arrived as he was unsure of his new environment. I have been taking him outside every 30-40mins to go for a wee etc to get him into a regular routine, so he learns that outside is the bathroom for him inside. If the weather is wet outside – he is reluctant to get his feet wet and will run (very fast) back inside. He now can sleep overnight without an accident. He had adapted well with a consistent routine.

GROOMING

Jami loves to be brushed; however, it is an energetic session as he likes to bite the brush at the start and then when he realises that it feels nice – he will stand still and relax. He is still unsure of being bathed but with gentle reassurance he is happy. He has had quick baths so he can get used to being bathed. He likes to be towel dried as he thinks it’s a game.

TRAVEL

Jami is really good in the car – he sits in the backseat in a harness and seat belt. The back seat has a dog hammock which keeps him secure on the seat. He does like to peer over the middle part of the hammock to see what is going on. He has not been car sick at all which is great.

IDEAL HOME

Jami needs a home with a good-sized yard to run around and explore especially when he gets the zoomies – he is very fast!! A home that will allow him to have access to inside and outside. He needs love in his life and to feel safe and secure, committed to offer consistent obedience training including socialisation to help him learn to play with other dogs. He will make a fantastic family dog and will need to be included in the family activities.

After a day of running, jumping, playing and eating – Jami will eventually snuggle beside you for the night. He will be an amazing companion

He has not been tested with cats or other small animals

Jami will need a larger secure yard with plenty of playing cspace as this little man has energy to burn
