Calico Jack

Hi, my name is Calico Jack and I am a super dreamy, excitable, cute 9-week-old Staffy X Heeler x with super good looks! And I am looking for my forever home.

We would describe Calico Jack’s personality as inquisitive, kind hearted, and fun loving. We believe Calico Jack was probably the baby of the litter and is quite a bit smaller than his brother, therefore based on his current weight we feel he will be a small to medium size boy once fully grown.

Calico Jack is a soft boy and loves being around people and other dogs. He is affectionate with a sensitive nature and you will get a kiss from him whilst he cuddles in your arms. There is a lot going on when you are a puppy – so he will give you a little grunt once he has had enough and it’s time to play! He is a little cuddly ball and has gained the nick name Meatball. He is quite content to be outside with his brother and resident Jack Russell’s. During the evening he is beginning to come in for cuddles on the couch and snuggle with the family. For a puppy he is quite calm and is not destructive.

Food

Calico Jack is currently eating three meals a day consisting of premium puppy dry food with either cooked chicken or roast chicken. Calico Jack loves his meals and when you are preparing his meal he will come running, he will sit and watch you prepare the meal. He is not food aggressive and will share with his foster brother. However, he will benefit from eating alone and not having to compete. He has sampled lamb off cuts, and we are using Smacko’s for treats and training.

Sleeping

Calico Jack loves sleeping with his brother in a covered crate and sometimes sleeps with one of the Jack Russell’s. He sleeps through the night and normally goes to bed around 10pm and will not wake until about 7 am. During the day he will snuggle up by himself or with his brother or foster brother in a round dog bed at the back door. After dinner he loves to visit with his human friends either on the couch or bed and is still learning to settle.

Toileting/Training/walking

Calico Jack is continuing to learn about toilet training and has access to a run area at night and both garden and grassed area during the day. On occasions he has had an accident inside if he has been too long inside but will mostly go outside. In his new home we would expect his to have a few accidents until he is used to his new surroundings and finds his spot. It will be important for you to encourage his to go outside once he wakes up from sleeping or taking a nap. He is still learning that the grass is the preferred area.

Calico Jack is being taught to sit on command and will take food gently from your hand. It will be important that he goes to puppy school to further his training. He is a super smart boy and is very attentive.

Due to his age and not being fully vaccinated Calico Jack has not had any training on a lead. He has not been wearing a collar being too small and young to have it on. He will need training on a lead or harness and would benefit from learning from other dogs. He also spends time in the back yard with a picket fence. This has helped him getting his used to seeing new things like cars driving past and people/dogs out walking by and new noises.

Once Calico Jack is old enough and fully vaccinated it will be important that he is taken for a daily walk.

Exercise/toys

Calico Jack loves exploring in the house and outside in the garden. He can be seen with his brother in the garden playing tug of war and smack down and doing zoomies with his foster friend. He enjoys a good wrestle. You will normally find him outside in the garden exploring or playing. He is a quiet dog and rarely barks. Calico Jack is learning about chew toys and squeaky toys and will happily play by himself. He will chase a ball and has a tug of war with ropes as well.

Children

Calico Jack is currently living in a home with 2 adults and 2 older teenagers, which he adores. Calico Jack has also been around other people and is very friendly, however he has puppy paws and teeth and so a home with older children would be better suited.

Dogs/Cats

Calico Jack has not been tested with cats, but due to his age we think he could adapt to being homed with a cat.

Calico Jack is currently living with two 2 Jack Russell’s who are older. Calico Jack try’s getting attention from the other dogs but being older they can be grumpy. Calico Jack would love to find a home with a small / medium size female dog. He is very considerate and doesn’t annoy them too much.

Travel

Calico Jack has had a few trips in the car and is learning to relax. He has been travelling in a crate and goes to sleep on a long trip. He will continue to learn with more experience on trips.

Bath

Calico Jack has had a few baths and is beginning to learn about washing and he is given treats during the bath to learn it is ok to have a spa treatment.

Adoption Requirements for Calico Jack

- Must have a decent size backyard with grass for him to run and play on

- must be willing to take his to puppy school and ongoing training

- daily walks when immunized and old enough

-Preferred home with a female dog who is well socialised (non dogs’ homes will also be considered)

- Must be able to sleep indoors / under cover in a kennel or crate.

- New family must understand puppies take time to settle in and all things puppy including crying, chewing, and training is a must)

- New family must understand that Calico Jack is seeking his forever home and not just a short term stay.
