Davey Jones

Hi my name is Davey Jones and I am a super handsome, excitable, confident 9 week old Staffy X. Heeler x with super good looks! And I am looking for my forever home.

Current weight 5.2 kilos

Based on Davey’s current weight we feel he will be a medium size boy once fully grown.

Davey is a soft boy and loves being around people and other dogs. You will get a kiss from his and he will lay in your arms for a cuddle but will give a grunt to be put down to run around – he enjoys his freedom and there is always something interesting going on. He is super cute and friendly and has the most adorable puppy dog eyes. He is quite content to be outside with his brother and the resident Jack Russell’s. During the evening Davey enjoys coming in for cuddles on the couch and just really enjoys being around people and other dogs. For a puppy he is quite balanced, and we would describe him as medium for his activity level. Davey has not been destructive and hasn’t been digging – but boy does he love his toys. He will happily carry them around with him all day before snuggling up with his favorite toy of the moment.

Food

Davey is currently eating three meals a day consisting of premium puppy dry food with either cooked chicken or roast chicken. Davey Jones loves his meals and when you are preparing his meal he will come running, he will sit and watch you prepare the meal. He is not food aggressive and will share with his foster brother, however clearly food is important to him and he enjoys a good meal! Davey will benefit from eating alone and not having to compete. He has sampled lamb off cuts, and we are using Smacko’s for treats and training.

Sleeping

Davey loves sleeping with his brother in a covered crate and also one of the resident Jack Russell’s now and then. He sleeps through the night and normally goes to bed around 10pm and will not wake until about 7 am. During the day he will snuggle up by himself or with his brother or foster brother in a round dog bed at the back door. After dinner he loves to visit with his human friends either on the couch or bed and is still learning to settle.

Toileting/Training/walking

Davey is continuing to learn about toilet training and has access to a run area at night and both garden and grassed area during the day. On occasions he has had an accident inside if he has been too long inside but will mostly go outside. In his new home we would expect his to have a few accidents until he is used to his new surroundings and finds his spot. It will be important for you to encourage his to go outside once he wakes up from sleeping or taking a nap. He is still learning that the grass is the preferred area.

Davey is being taught to sit on command and will take food gently from your hand. It will be important that he goes to puppy school to further his training. He is a super smart boy and is very attentive.

Due to his age and not being fully vaccinated Davey has not had any training on a lead. He has not been wearing a collar being too small and young to have it on. He will need training on a lead or harness and would benefit from learning from other dogs. He also spends time in the back yard with a picket fence. This has helped him getting his used to seeing new things like cars driving past and people/dogs out walking by and new noises. Once Davey is old enough and fully vaccinated it will be important that he is taken for a daily walk – he longingly looks at the resident Jack Russell’s heading out for their walks.

Exercise/toys

Davey loves exploring in the house and outside in the garden. He can be seen with his brother in the garden playing tug of war and smack down and doing zoomies with his foster friend. He enjoys a good wrestle. You will normally find him outside in the garden exploring or playing. He is a quiet dog and rarely barks. Davey is learning about chew toys and squeaky toys and will happily play by himself. He will chase a ball and has a tug of war with ropes as well.

Children

Davey Jones is currently living in a home with 2 adults and 2 older teenagers, which he adores. Davey Jones has also been around other people and is very friendly, however he has puppy paws and teeth and so a home with older children would be better suited.

Dogs/Cats

Davey has not been tested with cats, but due to his age we think he could adapt to being homed with a cat. Davey is currently living with two 2 Jack Russell’s who are older. Davey tries getting attention from the other dogs however sometimes he can be a little annoying as he is still learning. Davey would love to find a home with another medium size female dog.

Travel

Davey has had a few trips in the car and is learning to relax. He has been travelling in a crate and goes to sleep on a long trip. He will continue to learn with more experience on trips.

Bath

Davey has had a few baths and is beginning to learn about washing and he is given treats during the bath to learn it is ok to have a spa treatment.

Adoption Requirements for Davey Jones:

- Must have a decent size backyard with grass for him to run and play on

- must be willing to take his to puppy school and ongoing training

- daily walks when fully immunized and old enough

-Preferred home with a medium to Large female dog (non dogs homes will also be considered)

- Must be able to sleep indoors / under cover in a kennel or crate.

- New family must understand puppies take time to settle in and all things puppy including crying, chewing and training is a must)
