Trafford is one of a kind – the perfect mix of staffy and selpie and a gorgeous affectionate boy with a fair bit of playful puppy still left in him.

We can’t understand how or why he ended up in a country pound. Everyone who meets him says how calm he is, and you will be stopped on the streets and told how handsome he is.

He has the affection of a staffy wanting to be as close to you as possible, but he isn’t anxious and is quite self contained, taking himself off to the sunniest spot in the house. He is the size of a kelpie, coming barely up to your knees and has the kelpie ears and long legs. He will pretend to be asleep, but his kelpie ears are a dead set give away that he’s listening to every word you are saying.

As soon as he sees you walking to the door, he will run to meet you there. He loves his walks and given the chance would run next to you. Someone has obviously taught him to chase a stick and bring it back, he LOVES playing tug of war and chewing hard on his kong. He does have a staffy play growl and can be a bit mouthy when playing but is very gentle.

Trafford is a curious boy when walking – he will look at everyone and is alert to all the new noises. When he came to us, he hated walking on a lead but within a few days was walking nicely on a loose lead. He is a bit clumsy and over enthusiastic when meeting new dogs sometimes and will need some help with that, but we are already using distraction with him and he’s a lot calmer now.

He will sit and wait for food and knows wait and leave too. “Drop” and “shake” are works in progress!! He is toilet trained and will look expectantly at you for praise or treats straight away.

Trafford loves a head massage and a back scratch. He will back himself into you looking for a pat. Given half a chance he will jump on the sofa or bed but we have him on the floor at the end of the bed and he sleeps through the night there. He is an early riser though so be prepared to be woken up early with a wet nose in your face!

Trafford would suit an active household, possibly with an older dog. He seems to be drawn to labs and retrievers on our walks and is calm around them. He seems very interested in older teenage children too.

No cats, no small pets or younger children.
