Ronny is a very happy dog, who just wants to do the right thing by you. He’s an affectionate boy, who loves cuddles and attention, but is also happy to just snooze nearby if you’ve not got time to fuss with him. He loves people, and always welcomes a pat from a friend or a stranger. He can be extremely laid back and settle to sleep, but excitable and high energy if encouraged to be (especially when the Kong comes out).
Ronny’s energy when walking is moderate to high; he is energetic to start with, but settles into the walk after 10 mins or so. He walks well to heel with a confident handler, sits, stays and comes when asked to (although this has not been tested off lead). He does have a tendency to get excited when he sees other dogs, but this is not aggressive. Ronny needs a good walk at least once a day, and preferably a big back yard to run in and someone to play with for a while each day
In the evening, he settles extremely well and is happy to sleep on his bed, at your feet. He loves the couch, but will also stay on the floor if that’s where you want him to be.
Ronny loves chasing after his Kong - he runs fast to catch it, and will drop it straight away back to your feet. He barks with excitement during play, and just loves running and fetching for you. You will get a lot of pleasure exercising Ronny, as he just loves playing.
He is an extremely quick learner, and gets most things after just a couple of repetitions and positive reinforcement. Ronny is motivated by food to learn which makes positive reinforcing easier. He just wishes to please.
Ronny has no food guarding issues whatsoever - he’s happy to be patted when eating or even the food taken away if necessary. Ronny currently lives with no children. We would suggest caution around young and small children (as with any dog) as he can be quite boisterous when excited, and he is strong and has a bit of weight to him.
Ronny sleeps completely through the night, only waking up when he hears his foster mum wake. He is totally house-trained. He is not allowed in the bedroom, and knows that boundary and doesn’t overstep it. Ronny has never chewed anything in the home, even though there might be shoes, old socks, etc, lying round.
Whilst Ronny has not shown any signs whatsoever of jumping or wanting to escape, we would suggest 5-6ft fences would be required to be sure of his security if left on his own. He loves his people so doesn’t look to get away and knows his home is the best place to be. Such a home body really. He does whine a little when left on his own, but soon settles.
Ronny has no annoying habits that his foster mum has come across. He falls in with whatever you are doing. He is relaxed in the car (until sighting another dog), will snooze and chill if that’s what you’re doing, and will liven up and exercise with you at your pace.
Ronny has almost a “purr” which we think staffy owners will be familiar with, when you fuss with him. He LOVES his chest being stroked and will back into you to encourage pats and attention, and lean on you for a cuddle when you sit. But he will also stop if told to.
Ronny needs a confident owner who can handle his bouts of excitement, and one who will set boundaries and be consistent with those. He is a strong dog, but doesn’t have a bad bone in his body; expectations just need to be very clear and calmly reinforced with positive reinforcement, no scolding.
Ronny needs a family who will cuddle and show him affection. He will be the best and loyal dog for his pack. Older kids are more suitable than young and he prefers to be around people, rather than left alone for long periods. He’ll be your shadow, and is happy to go wherever you go. He appreciates being acknowledged and spoken to, if only in passing, as you go about your business. He enjoys being part of the pack and getting involved in whatever you’re doing.
