Meet the incredibly sweet loveable and very handsome Butch.

Mr swagger of good looks is a 1 year and 9 month old Australian Cattle dog x who weighs in at approx 33 kilos so a larger size med

. He is extremely affectionate and would cuddle 24/7 if it was up to him. Saying that, Butch is also very independent and does not mind being in the backyard by himself, even when he can see us inside. Butch loves going for long walks and is very good on the lead. He is eager to please and listens when told ‘no’ etcetera. He is a real sweetheart that loves to spend time with his family.

Travelling in the car

Butch travels well in the car and very much enjoys a car trip

Outside

Butch loves being outside and does not cry or bark at all when left alone. We have been leaving Butch in the backyard during the days and he is happy to be there. Butch is not destructive at all and won’t chew on things or attempt to dig any holes.

He is fine to leave in the yard on his own while his humans are at work

Visitors – people

Butch loves people and is very friendly to everyone he meets. Butch likes both adults and kids, but he tends to jump when he gets excited and sometimes doesn’t realise his size, so he is not suitable in a household with kids under the age of 12.

Enrichment

Butch is quite happy with a long walk or a run each day to stretch his legs He does not seem to get restless very easily and is quite happy to just be with his family. He is extremely affectionate and will want to be adopted into a family where he gets to be a part of the family as much as possible. Being alone during the day is fine, but he wants to be invited for cuddles by the tv in the evening and be treated as a family member. Butch is not much of a toy player but loves a treat toy to entertain him

Independence

Butch is independent and can be left alone outside without any issues.

Walks – lead experience

Butch walks excellent on the lead. He doesn’t pull and will walk next to you on a short lead or a stroll on a longer lead .

When Butch sees a cat or a dog he will pull and bark on most occasions and will require an experienced handler to keep him in check during these occasions

Obedience

Butch knows ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘down’, ‘no’, ‘come here’ and ‘stay’. Butch loves to please and listens very well.

Butch is super smart and has learnt of this while in our care

Inside

Butch is amazing inside. He gets excited if you stir him up, but if you are calm, he is calm. He is not destructive at all and doesn’t chew on things or anything like that. He mainly sleeps while inside or follows us around when we are doing things. He will occasionally bark at things going on outside the house, but he listens well when corrected.

Dog socialisation, cat, small animals

Well we know cats are a no go for Butch but dogs are an interesting one for Butch.

When walking Butch can bark at other dogs but on some occasions when meeting them is very playful and friendly, He seems to be a bit hit and miss with which dogs he likes on most occasions

As he has been very friendly with some dogs both male and female we feel in the right hands with the right training Butch does have the ability to be dog social in the future but at this stage we are saying he is not social with others

Sleeping habits

Butch is used to sleeping both inside and outside and seems quite happy with both. He is currently sleeping in the laundry and seems to be fine with that, but he would prefer to sleep in the bedroom with his family.

Toilet training

Butch is 100% toilet trained and has had no accidents inside.

Ideal home

The ideal home for Butch would be in a family who loves cuddles as much as he does. It would also be a relatively active family who will take him running/walking/hiking frequently as he does require a moderate amount of exercise. Butch loves to please and would really suit someone who is interested in continuing training him. Butch is not suitable for a first dog owner, and it is a must that his future family knows how to deal with anti-social behaviours in dogs and seek professional help to work through it. Due to this, Butch is not suitable in a home with other dogs.

We are seeking:

A family with experience of big dogs

A nice size yard with shade and shelter with secure fencing

A family with no kids, or kids over the age of 12

A family that will give him lots of affection and cuddles

A family that will give him the exercise he needs

A family that is willing to take him to a dog trainer to work on his anti-social behaviours

A family that can be firm with him when required. Butch is very strong and need a family that won’t get intimidated by him barking at other dogs’ etcetera.
